rrgguitarman
Hey guys, Has anyone tried to replace the Lady Luck speaker that came with this cabinet? I tried to remove the back panel by removing all the screws and no matter which way I pulled, I could not get the back off! What am I missing? Thanks. cGil
They're glued in pretty good, huh! They probably assemble them while the glue on the tolex is still wet. Try running something thin like a putty knife down the seams to break it loose if you can. And pull harder! Okay, pull harder on one end to kinda peel the panel out. You'll hear the glue breaking, but hopefully not the panel. I broke the upper end "ears" loose on my VStandard's back panel. Didn't use the putty knife. Gil... This kind of sucks...if I use a putty knife, wont that tear the Tolex? I thought that the these Cabinets were made of Plywood? Thanks.
strangedogs
not if you go slow and craefully - my Combo was the same way I had to slowly PRY it off... I used a thin 3" putty knife.
nighthawk
I find that it helps to wrap masking tape around the knife to protect the Tolex from the sharp edges then slowly work around all the edges a little at a time until it pops loose. Go slow, patience pay off.
rrgguitarman
Thanks guys. I will have another go at it...very slowly! Oh, one more thing, I noticed that the speakers leads are soldered on the Epi Vs using a clip, should I get some clips or should I just go ahead and solder the new speaker on? Is one way better than the other? Thanks.
Steven Lister
Oh' date=' one more thing, I noticed that the speakers leads are soldered on the Epi Vs using a clip, should I get some clips or should I just go ahead and solder the new speaker on? Clip connectors like to rattle themselves loose when you're rockin' so.... What's your speaker swap choice? Let us know your tone results, eh? VJr. responds well and quite differently to different watt/type speakers. It's like a subtle tone mod. Welcome to the forum -- rrguitarman! Eracer_Team
Just remember that too much heat can hurt the voice coil... get it hot, get the wire on, take soldering iron off... quickly
rrgguitarman
What's your speaker swap choice? I was going to try out the Celestion V30 until I hooked up the cabinet (by itself) to the amp that has the V30 to the Epi Head...I think that the Lady Luck sounds about the same? get it hot, get the wire on, take soldering iron off Thanks for your input. I'll keep it mind if I go ahead and exchange.
strangedogs
I've tried 2 different speakers out with my Combo including a 1966 ROLA 12" - the Eminence in it (combo V3) still sounds the BEST to me.
mrjones200x
I love the std speaker. Tried my vox speaker from my AD-30-VT and it sounded pretty bad in comparison. (its a 10" speaker) May get a epi cab at later date but happy with stock
