lovat0705
I just bought a casino from guitar center in vintage sunburst, which they did not have in stock. They ordered it for me, but the stock photo they showed me looked like crap. Like the one on musician's friend and guitar center. I was hoping it would look more like the 65 or elitist with the thin black portion following the curve of the top. Can anyone tell me what the standard looks like in vintage sunburst? charlie brown
That's a nice one, Cookieman! I like the burst much better than the ones described in the photos. We'll hope you version is the current trend, and not what's pictured on MF. CB
leicester35
Probably a really dumb question, this... Does the current MIC Casino have the Grover tuners, which Epiphone uses so often now? (I'm guessing not, as many people here seem to have issues with the tuners on the standard Casino...) If the Grovers are not used...why is this case? They turn up as stock on cheaper instruments (my G-400 has them, for example). Also the Sheraton has stock Grovers, and this retails at the same price as the Casino. charlie brown
I haven't seen the latest, latest ones, but the previous (non-Elitist) versions had Epi's version of the metal buttoned Kluson Deluxe, because that's what the original Kalamazoo versions had. I think they were trying to stay somewhat ture to the originals. (However, the neck depth into the body is shallower than the originals...the Elitis version is more correct, that way.) Still...in most other respects, it's very close. Some folks, that want to retain that original tuner's look, will replace the epi deluxes with Schaller deluxe or Gotoh deluxe versions. Putting it bluntly, do the "Epi version of the metal buttoned Kluson Deluxe" er...suck, by any chance? I guess it's no big job to lash a set of Grovers on a Casino, anyway. Strikes me as weird though - I take your point about staying true to the originals, yet they use Grovers on the much more expensive Elitist... gvdv
My MIC (in May 2008) Casino looks exactly like cookieman's. I was in two minds about whether or not to get the natural (blonde) Casino (and will later buy that in the Elitist range), and was worried that I wouldn't like the sunburst. But I love it. In fact, I'm having a bit of separation anxiety about letting the guitar go back to the store I bought it for a set-up. I noticed last night that the machine heads have 'Epi' on them - not sure if that means that they're Epiphone's own tuners or that they're Grovers. I have not been impressed with the machine heads. charlie brown
Well, they're not Grover's, for sure. But, I have some of the Epi deluxe version on my Korean Riviera, and I've never had any trouble with them. I did have some tuning problems, but it wasn't from the tuners! It was from a string binding nut. Once that was corrected, the problem went away. Grover's are larger/beefier tuners, with larger gearing and buttons, so they are smoother. Whether they're more stable? Maybe so...but, as I experienced, and many other's here, have testified to, the biggest tuning issues usually involve the "nut!" I had them set up by a pro and have barely touched the tuners since and I play one or both of them everyday.
