Need some suggestions....

I've had my AlleyKat home for about a week. Last night, I plugged in and flipped the toggle switch to treble and no sound came out. The bridge p/u seems to be working when I have switch in the middle and when it is switched to the neck p/u only there are no problems. I was wondering what I need to do to get this problem fixed.

Since your info says newbie, I don't know if this is your first guitar or not...

Similar experience made me panic shortly after I got my 1st guitar.

Regardless of selector switch position, both volume knobs should have a non-zero value.

Otherwise, no sound.

Where do you live? Here in NOLA we have authorized repair people (the dude who takes 4 weeks for a setup), so the guitar should still be under warranty. If not, either have someone replace the toggle or try it yourself.

This may sound like a stupid question, but did you have the volume knob on you treble pickup on (i.e. not at zero)?

That'll do it because the way the three-way switches unless you have both volume knobs turned on, you're not

going to get any sound out of the other pickup, only the one that's turned on and the middle position. The other

one will be dead.

If your treble volume switch was on, then I'd say you have a toggle switch problem. If so, take it to a technician

and have them fix it. If they have one where you bought the guitar you can have it fixed under the Epiphone Warranty. If not then just have them replace the switch. It won't cost you much. Ask "Twang". He's got the

know on all the replacement stuff. Good luck!

I have (almost) similar problems with my second hand Dot (if I keep toggling it will eventually work). I put it down to bad electronics and as I'm about to change that - hence a cheap second hand dot - I'm not to bothered.

Probably the easiest thing to replace on a guitar ;-)

remove switch..use a needle nose pliers.. small ones.. to make the contact strips have more tension.. keeping the contact

points tight when you switch positions..

don't overbend.. just squeeze them a bit and LOOK.

you'll tell they are tighter.

those strips of metal get pushed back and forth a lot.. they are a tad on the inexpensive side.. and together those things add up to premature

loss of tension.

Which you can get back by the above method. three months on mine now.. and no problems at all.

I think mine will be good for at least another 6 months.. and I'd rather do this, while cleaning and restringing, than buy another switch.

But.. another switch of higher quality will also fix the problem, probably for a few years, depending on how hard you work the switch.

I gave myself a similar near heart attack with my (for all intents and purposes) brand new Epi Lucille the other day. With me it was no sound from the neck pup. I figured either the switch or the PUP itself was bad. I went to bed that night with a heavy heart. I decided to tery it again the next morning before beginning a long trip back to Sam Ash. To my delight, I discovered that I had the damn thing plugged into the STEREO jack. Problem solved. I was never so happy to be a ****** in my entire life!

I know this probably has nothing to do with your issue. I am just trying to offer a glimmer of hope that YOU may be a ****** too! Good luck ...

Trust me, not hard to see myself as a ****** (people who me know would probably concur with that assessment). Thanks for all your suggestions so far. Unfortunately, since I bought her in Nashville and live in Columbus, I probably will have to get the switch replaced.

Probably just needs to have the contacts cleaned. Sometimes you can 'fix' it by jiggling the switch back and forth a few times but for a permanent fix you really need to pull the switch and clean the contacts with emery paper. Sometimes it can be a soldering problem as well.
