Hey Nelson, GOTCHA......HA,HA,HA,HA,HA.. I have regular access to a 64 ES 330,and own a 2002 Santa Cruz,so who you kidding. Oh and by the way the guy that set up the Matsumoku forum, you can find at the Rathole, and he`s a player,so it couldn`t possibly be you. Now if I just get up to speed on Gibson,I`ll blow you away on them too. Those 60`s Casino`s have five ply bodies, not like the ES330`s which are three ply, and as you know soooooo much better. I see you are recycling all the put downs you reserved for JerryMac at my door. Come on son, your written word is proof of your lack of Intelligence( no imagination). Boy I`m flying now,get out of here while you still can......You tosspot!!!!!!. Oh and while you are at it FIND THAT PROOF!!!!. I say put up or shut up, thats fair. Am I getting better with the space bar?. Bring it on, YEEEEHAAAAAA. I know lifes hard, but look on the bright side I could have been American, and speaking Spanish before much longer. Keep out guys it`s between me and him, and we`re gonna have us a Supernova!!!!!. Or he can say sorry, and I will naturally forgive him, because I`m just a poor English boy, from a backward country. Honestly Nelson, you`ve been avoiding me like a Yankee fighter avoiding Joe Calzaghe, and with good reason, as you now know.

Your syntax and grammatical composition are a tribute to the British special needs educational system. I'll bet your mum's glad she checked her maxi pad and found you before she tossed you in the rubbish...

Nelson. Yeah I know, You have got me bang to rights on Syntax, and Grammatical composition!. But you didn`t get me on the guitars, which is what you set out to do. Anyway, I can tell a good story, whereas you are just a Hack writer. So lets face it, when it comes to you, America invested in a Bigoted Moron. Yeah my mum was proud of me... And I bet Hitler was proud of you!!!!!. Hey, just a thought, are you one of those "Boys From Brazil"?. Forget i said that, you couldn`t possibly know where Brazil is. Hey, perhaps the proof is in Brazil!.

I am reminded why I don't frequent forums. Here are mine (I can't figure out how to post the pics so follow the link. The two naturals were purchased in Japan. The AS was purchased in the US. I welcome your thoughts as long as they are civil. Interestingly, on the labels, the natural with no pickguard says "Casino N" and the other says "Casino AN". I gather the N is natural but can figure why "AN".

Nice Casino`s you have there houblues. My Natural one has an "N" as well, I think "AN" means Antique Natural. Out of interest,do they all share the same type of Label, Enclosed pots, and three piece Necks?. And by the way I think the third one looks stunning in it`s Birds eye Maple, The other two look very nice too, and they have obviously been looked after, I`ll take it, that like me, you are a big fan of the Matsumoku Casino`s. Old Jerry Mac has recently sold his, and I was begining to think I was alone, now that Tad Miura, seems to have left the forum.

I am sorry i flew off the handle with Nelson the other day, but sometimes.....

Thanks. The one with birdseye was number 1. To answer your question they are all very similar. All have the three-piece neck, pot covers and the square yellow (or orange?) label. I was using number 1 as my main guitar until recently when a bandmate got an MIK natural Casino. I thought we looked kind of silly together so I switched to the AS. Check out what we are working on here, a live performance of the White Album, complete with orchestra.

So would I be right that the two naturals (which I bought in Japan) would be the ones for the Japanese market and the Antique Sunburst (which I bought in the US) would be an export model? The only difference that is obvious to me is the trussrod cover, though as mentioned above my luthier thought the natural #1 had a thicker piece of wood inside. I am not sure he is right.

To answer to GlennW, (and sorry for my poor english) this shiro guitar is very similar to a 1965/1967 ES 335 copy that i own; the mine is indeed a very good copy, with the real Gibson"open book" headstock, the crown logo, the thin neck and the "fender amp style" knobs (not like this shiro, but I think it's not original) of the the 1965/1967 ES 335; I always thought it was a Hammamatsu made (tokai) and not a Matsumoku but who knows? how do you post a picture here? You'll see these guitars are very close in their aspects...

That makes sense because I've only been able to find information on two or three other Shira guitars, and I believe they were classical guitars from the '60s, but, the Shiro 335 I posted looks nothing like any other '60s MIJ guitars I've seen. It's a mystery. For pictures many use a photobucket account (free).

Thanks (but in this forum we can see pictures besides the text and not with url) anyway here is the url from photobucket for a picture (not a great one) of my guitar :

http://i452.photobucket.com/albums/qq245/rickenpat/PBR.jpg

this guitar is currently at my week end house in the mountain and i've only this picture in my computer, but if somebody is interested i'll post other pictures next monday...

I've equipped this guitar with gibson 57 classic (but kept the original (and good, but a little bit agressive) japanese pickups) it sounds really great.

But Hammamatsu or Matsumoku??? And where are Jerrymac and Uncle Al/Iconoclast???Are they the same person??

That does look like the same guitar, slightly larger unbound f-holes and all.

What brand is yours?

Is yours a full hollow body, or does it have the 335 center block?

Thanks for the picture, this is getting interesting.

I put Gibson '57 Classics in a 335 copy and I love it.

the brand of mine is "Paul Beuscher", a french distributor; the guitars where ordered in Japan with the name of a local distributor, like this one. it was frequent at this time. This guitar has indeed the 335 center block, it's a faithful copy, like I said upper, more precisely a copy of the 1965/1967 ES335. Except, maybe the finish colour, I'm not sure the 1965/67 had this (beautiful) cherry-wine finish.

For Nelson/Iconoclast/Uncle Al' date=' because that is who you are!. Firstly the tone of your rant only confirms the depths of your ignorance, and slagging off us Brits that way, is frankly racist!. But getting back to the topic in hand, you didn`t explain to my satisfaction why the Archtops are only in the 82/83 catalogues (catalog isn`t English, like color or humor isn`t,when it`s called the American language i`ll spell it your way!). You didn`t explain why the US and UK guitars have different specs. The first photo you offer up of the Red Riviera. That very model is in the Japanese 1977 catalogue on the very same page as my supposed export model Natural Casino! (if it`s not beneath you go and check the Matsumoku forum sometime, you might learn something).Next point where did I say they were limited to a few months? I said they are only in the late 82 & early 83 US catalogues, not before or after. Surely if these guitars were available from 79 onwards, they would be in more. Next you claim the Wine Red and funky sunburst were the export ones, well I have a Natural too ! so that must be domestic YES !!!?. The Nashville label you refer to is for the limited run JHS model I mentioned, and if you look closely at the photo again you will see it says JHS=S. And talking about labels are you or are you not the expert shot down in flames, by JerryMac God bless him, when you claimed the Brown patches on the Tan 81-85 labels was glue seepage, but funnily enough we all had exactly the same pattern of glue seepage on our labels, some expert!!!. I do not profess to know it all about Matsumoku made guitars, but I do collect them and like to share my knowledge, if I can help. But you, well you know it all. I`ve heard you slag off Matsumoku P-90`s before , and then later on claim you`ve never heard them!. You have made it clear in the past that you have not played a Matsumoku Casino before, so do me a favour and save your comments for when you have!!. As for me posting pictures of my Casino`s, they are in my Avatar, and close ups can be found in my first ever post on this newer forum. One more thing on the 14th of July this year you (as Iconoclast) posted a response to Modfather about Terada Casino`s, the topic was EPIPHONE CASINO JAPANESE 92, there you deemed to show us a picture of your precious so called 64 Casino. Well guess what, it Isn`t!!!. You`ve got it stuck in your little mind that for a Casino to be a special or limited edition, it has to have a finish which resembles the Kalamazoo guitars of yesteryear, not so!. The Terada 64 Casino had and I repeat HAD a 16th fret neck/body Join, not a 17th like your`s has,i`m afraid your`s is just the bog standard model. How can such an expert not know that. Now go and do a bit more study, and when you grow up have another pop at me. Or better still crawl back to EpiWiki where they think your God, and bandage those wounds. I for my part will continue to treat you and your comments with the contempt they both deserve. P.S. One very final point, I don`t care if my Casino`s are domestic only models or not, and never have done, they are great guitars. I just wanted you to prove what you stated!!. And that alas is that!!.[/quote']

In respest to comments made here about the rare 1986 Epiphone Matsumoto JHS model, there appears to remain some confusion about the JHS designations origin. Firstly, there is no denying that the CASINO JHS model (one piece Mahogany neck, superb build quality, weight etc) exceeds virtually any non-60's original versions to date. It is truly a superb instrument. A doubt remains about the origin of the JHS designation. In this, and other Casino forums, participants claim it refers to John Hornby Skewes (a UK musical instrument distributor.) Well, I spoke with JHS recently and they flatly deny that they ever offered Epiphone instruments or ever had a hand in a specific Epiphone model for distribution. So, the mystery continues. Also, there is a mention here of a JHS-S, I personally have not seen that designation (not to say it didn't happen) but rather the CASIONO-JHS version only. Anyhow, if anyone knows the true origin of the JHS designation, please advise. Thanks all !!!

If there was a photo I whould view it. If I viewed it I would comment on it. If I commented on it then I would have viewed it from the beginning of the post that had been viewed when it was viewable in the first place by the poster and the viewers that commented on it in the first place. That being said I have no idea what I just said. But I did view this as I wrote it. Does that count?

The photos can be found on page three of this thread, in Nelson`s post which has lots of photographs. The guitar in question is in photos 7 down to 10 ( the Casino with the Bigsby). In the first photo which shows the F/hole label, you can just make out JHS-S, my guess is the last "S" stands for Sunburst.

As to whether the guitar is a John Hornby Skewes limited edition or not( I was also informed that the Matsumoku P-90`s were made by Maxon, but I now think they were Gotoh!), is now in doubt.

I have never seen a JHS Labelled Casino in the UK, certainly not in the mid 80`s. We only got the standard model in Wine Red & Antique Sunburst finishes at that time, and in fact apart from the Mahogany neck, the fret end binding, and a possible Nitro finish, the JHS Casino`s appear to be the same as the standard Maple necked Matsumoku offering, they shared the same pickups and h/ware, and they even shared that Gretsch type body outline with the wider waist, which only the Matsumoku`s have.

Houblues later sold one of his Natural Matsumoku Casino`s on eBay, and that guitar had the one piece Mahogany neck too, and it wasn`t a JHS model!

Anyone know more?
