Is it worth it?

I'm thinking of selling my epi les paul black beauty, and buying a gibson les paul bfg..

reason is cause i tried an epi les paul gold top and was blown away by the p90s..

my epi is also getting older, fret wears.... buzzing even action is medium, a fret is dead, and need to change pickups.. meaning i have to spend more money on it, not to mention time as well...

how? what is ur guys opinions about this..

oh and the headstock had a small crack from below the paint coat, and the wood around the post of my tail piece and saddle, is also a bit dented, becoz of 11s string i guess.. guess i need a new guitar??

yeah, the bfg is cheap...

the gold top, but i want rear humbucking pu. plus the price is not very much diff here. just a bit cheaper than bfg.

A good comparison here would be buying a top of the line, fully loaded Toyota, OR a base model, stripped Lexus.

is brand name more important than the options included?

Is it worth the difference in price?

Only the buyer can answer this, as different people desire different things.

Maybe think about getting the gold top then? (Not a big fan of the BFG...yuk.)

I'm not a big fan of the BFG either. Specially after seening the "music video" on the Gibson website. (Is that even a real band?!?!?)

I find okay a faded black model... I would get that one and remove the killswitch and replace with the normal toggle switch and put a bypass switch on the bottom hole by the knobs.

I finally found one 2 weeks old bfg to try with my custom side by side...

thanx for all you advices... this is what i found after testing it

my custom is better... in all aspects... i am very surprised.. and i feel very frustrated for gibson..

the sound... mine sounds way better... bright yet full

the bfg sounds muddy all the way, bridge pu, even the p90.

i was shocked... i was teaching guitar when i test the guitar..

and i ask my 11 year old student's humble opinion..

"i think the black guitar (my custom) sounds better"... he said

that what i thought, i told him..

the p90 also doesnt give me the excitement i got when i tested the gold top epi previously..

even the action is high, not comfortable..

and it's a no no for me, bfg is a no no..

please, conform my foundings... maybe the bfg i tested sucks.... but maybe it's the only one that sucks..

i will drive my toyota all the way until it dies, but i'm not going to buy the stripped down lexus, it's like you are buying a lexus without an engine haha...

"Specially after seening the "music video" on the Gibson website." i know scarey buggers. :D

them bfg's are made of skinned crocodiles. now steve irwin has gone. there may be no one brave enough to skin them and make a new batch.

you could have bought some p90 humbucker size pups and been happy with your old guitar. £40 upgrade. :-k/

Why would you buy a car (BFG finish) without paint and sealer or without gauges (BFG-no fretmarkers) or without any (BFG - no binding, no pickup rings, no truss rod cover, no toggle switch rings, ) door panels. A sage person once advised me about buying guitars:

1. It should look (to you) good

2. It should play well

3. It should sound Good

I think you said the EPi had at least 2, but I would guess all 3. Why buy a 2x4 with pups and strings? WTF is Gibson thinking about? EPI's are a good value.

It could very well be the worst looking gibson I have ever seen, it has a faded black color (not bad but keep reading) no clear coat sealer, no binding, no pick up rings, no fret markers, some ugly nasty wooden knobs, and the switches don't come with the caps. And this is actually a new guitar, I think they got the idea from some of the stuff that sells on ebay.

But to each his own, its definitely not for me but I guess some one must like it.

Yeah, wasn't there a Gibson "Guitar of the Month/Week" whatever, that had that pickup combo,

but a much nicer (all around) guitar...LP Studio or Standard? OR..am I just "Dreaming," now?! LOL!
