Davebee Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 This may be a tired subject for many, but I'm new to the Casino's. Could anyone tell me about the differences in Japanese, Korean and the current Chinese products? Is there a big difference? If so what are the differences? Neck profile etc. I have heard the Korean Casino's have a "faster" neck. Is it worth seeking out the non-Chinese models? Is an Elitist worth it? I know I am asking a lot of stuff an help would be appreciated.
charlie brown Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 I agree...if you can swing the price, the "Elitist" is the way to go, or if you want the "Nitro" paint, the "Lennon" version. But, "they ain't cheap!" "Elitist" are true to original specs. Neck joint, upper bout horn shape, etc. And, better wood! The Korean, and Chinese guitars are great, in their own right...price range, etc. But, unless they've redesigned them, the neck joint is not as far into the body, and the horns are a bit rounder. But, that's only cosmetic. They seem well made! CB
JefferySmith Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 Be careful of a guy who is selling Elitist Casinos on fleabay as "John Lennon Revolution" Casinos. Or fleabayers who say "A Casino just like the one John Lennon played!". It may very well not be at all just like the one John Lennon played. I generally email these guys a "question" about the guitar, pointing out that they are not being quite accurate. They rarely respond.
ant7629 Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 My Casino is Korean, and I love it. Like the others say, if you can afford an Elitist, then go for one of those. If not, have a good shop around for a Korean/Chinese model, and try as many as you can. Good luck

charlie brown Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 Casino's...really ARE beautiful! GAS attack, anyone? CB
Greg Curtis Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 I recently bought a Casino Elitist. Made in Japan and quality thru out. Feels great, looks wonderful and sounds like no other I've ever heard. If you can swing one, get it!
byrds1965 Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 I did the ABC several years ago now. I own 2 MIK a burst and a natural. The Elitist is nicer than the MIKs unplugged and feels more solid. Plugged in not too much difference. The Lennon was the nicest of the bunch but not as bright plugged in or unplugged. I would attribute that to the nylon saddles. If a Casino is going to be your main guitar then go with the Elitist. Same thing as the Lennon but brighter and more electric sounding. If just a second guitar and want to have one to have one like me play as many MIKs or MICs as you can find and pick the one you like. My bandmate has a natural MIC and we have compared ours. The trapeze is a bit thinner guage steel and has a bend at the top close to the nuts and his has the greyish looking wood while my MIK is more honey colored. plugged in the same thing. If shopping used see if you can find a Peerless, R or P, plant one as they are the best of the MIKs. These will have the smaller nuts on the trapeze too and usually the dull insead of swirl plastic inlays. Should be able to get for a much lower price than new also. If you can find one of the earlier MIJ Casinos like some guys here have grab it. I passed on one for $500 several years ago not realizing what it was. They are the same quality as the Elitist or Lennon's. Good luck looking.
