jcwillow777 Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 I did a few more things to my Sherry. I had a 335 pick guard made, black/cream/black. I also changed the knobs and added some pointers. Here's a couple of pics. Next comes the Bigsby. I have decided to keep the hardware gold, even though I know it will fade.
custer Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 Beautiful! Where did you get the pick guard and the new knobs and pointers? I would like to do the same thing to my Dot.
lpdeluxe Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 Nice job. I don't understand why Epi (and Gibson, for that matter) use such ugly knobs. My natural finish Sheraton now has gold speed knobs and it looks much better.
layboomo Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 Nice classic look.....Don't do the Bigsby IMO...buy a wildcat if you want that. I just like hard tail 335's better. I'd just upgrade the electronics and call it a day.

jcwillow777 Posted September 20, 2008 Author Posted September 20, 2008 Thanks for the kind comments guys. I really don't like the pick guards that Epi puts on Dots and Sheratons, that's just me. I got the pick guard done at www.terrapinguitars.com. I was gonna have Twang do it, but he couldn't locate any black/cream/black material. This is the second one I have had them make, and they both fit like a glove. I got the knobs at GFS. I got a similar set for my Dot too, but they have chrome centers. I have had really good luck with GFS knobs fitting all of my Epis. I tried a set of black speed knobs from Stemac on my '57 Jr RI, but they were too tight. I got the pointers at www.Stewmac.com, but there are others that sell them too. I have already put a set of Vintage 59s in her, and new pots, jack, switch and wiring. New GFS bridge also as well as new tuner knobs. I got them here. They tuners work great, I just wanted some different knobs. I have never been a big fan of the kindey shaped tuner knobs that Grover uses.

I think I'd like to do that myself.

It's a shortscale 335, but I did give give him some specifics. I originally sent him the pick guard from my Dot, he emailed me a pdf drawing, I made comments on some changes and he made it like I wanted it. This is the second one he did for me, and he still had the template on file from my Dot so he just used that template. The holes are different on my Sherry, so I had him make it without the holes and I drilled them after I got it. I checked before I ordered it to see if both pick guards lined up the same with my pickups, and they did. I am very happy with the job he did. This one was $20 plus shipping. The first one was $15 more for custom making it the way I wanted it so that it would fit my pickups.
