wiltshire willy Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 Is there any kind of adapter that can be used to convert an Epi bridge mount to a Gibson bridge mount so that an ABR bridge can be fitted to a standard epi.Not sure if they are the same dimensions also so help with this would be appreciated ,and if possible to do has anyone done it with sucess . cheers WW
cuthbertg Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 I wouldn't mind knowing the answer to this as well as I am upgrading my LP Std to '59 Gibson spec electronics at the moment (I should probably open a thread!) and I want to uprgade the hardware next,...some kind of adapter for the ABR1 would be cool. In the searching I have done so far nothing has popped up. I understand that the main problem is the ole imperial vs metric systems (USA built guitars = imperial, the rest of the world = metric - I think)- you may need a metric bridge. A few people have mentioned that tonepros do a direct fit 'nashville' type tuneomatic bridge which I'm considering even though really I wouldnt mind being able to direct fit an ABR1. The tonepros metric one does look quite good and it locks to the shafts with an allen key (apparently for better sustain, tuning etc) and doesnt fall off when you remove the strings. http://www.wdmusic.com/tonepros_metric_tune_o_matic_24681_prd1.htm Unfortunately, unless anyone knows any better, it looks like the only way you can get a gibson bridge on your epi (what type is it BTW?) is to fill the current holes and the re drill for your new bridge etc - something I dont like the idea of - even if done by a pro!
Memphs1978 Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 i dont think that you can the epie is a metric and the gibby is not... i am prolly wrong so dont take this as any more then a post...
cuthbertg Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 Yeah I know - sorry if it comes across like that In mitigation though I did say "may need a metric bridge" and I do ask what type of guitar it is at the bottom....
wiltshire willy Posted September 20, 2008 Author Posted September 20, 2008 found one but it looks a bit expensive http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=180278069157 what you recon W W
colimodio Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 they fit if they seem similar. only diff is in the thread of the posts. bridge has same dimensions.
wiltshire willy Posted September 21, 2008 Author Posted September 21, 2008 they fit if they seem similar. only diff is in the thread of the posts. bridge has same dimensions. so you recon they would fit with addapter in or not .so when they say epi is metric do they only mean shaft size not bridge size?WW

I did, and it went a long ways towards dramatically changing the tone of my guitar. (In fact, in some ways I PREFER the TonePros bridge because it has small allen hex anchors which provide contact between the bridge and the moving h/w)
chrisprice Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 Guys...Is this what you are looking for: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=180278069157 Looks the business...anyone tried these?......Chris
Whitmore Willy Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 Willy, Hope Chris found your solution. I can't access his link so I don't know. If not... I put a Gibson tp-6 tail piece on mine. Same problem...Metric vs inches. The thing was, the stud centers were the same measurement on both. I took the studs to a local machine shop and one of the guys turned down the shaft part on the metric so that it was the same diameter as th U.S. We left the threads alone. It worked just fine. Cost me a couple of beers after the guy got out of work. If the centers are not the same, the studs have to be changed. That means changing bushings, filling holes and redrilling. I like the Gotoh I put on mine...direct change..extra travel for calibration. I suppose you could also drill out the holes on the ABR if the center spacing was the same.
Mange Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 I used a metric tone pros on my custom wasnt cheap tho. got it from here www.marquisdistribution.com
Dave Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 Lots of people here use the Gotoh bridge from Stewmac. http://www.stewmac.com/shopby/product/1511-N I have one in an epi and had to use the original posts. The ones that came with the Gotoh were a slip fit and the standard Epi posts were a press fit and they fit the bridge perfectly. The Stewmac site has measurement dimensions and tech drawings that can help you decide which will fit and which to buy.
Ricochet Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 I used a metric tone pros on my custom wasnt cheap tho.got it from here www.marquisdistribution.com Ouch...they're expensive! If the Hipshot Baby Grand is anything to go by. A 144 bucks? Stew sells these for 90... I see some guys exchanging hardware from their Gibby Custom shop/RIs for Faber-stuff at very sensible prices.. http://www.tokaiguitar.de/produkte.php?rubrik=4&rechts=7 Available in metric sizes as well...
Suho Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 Well, I don't know that all epiphone bridges can be lumped together. As for the TP-6, I put one on my '97 Sheraton II and had no problem with it. It was the bridge that was spaced differently so the posts, regardless of thread size, did not line up for Gibson bridges.
