Can't Be All Bad Here

Although I am a new member and I am not familiar with the "way it use to be", I don't think it is that bad here. Good people, good info, good humor...

I noticed this at the bottom of the main forum page, so I must not be alone in my thinking.

Most users ever online was 102, Yesterday at 9:19:56 AM.

Actually, there seem to have been more troll sightings in the past three weeks than we have seen in the past. And I'm guessing that the trolls are regular here who are too ashamed to act out using their own user name. So, they register, trash someone, and then leave that username alone thereafter (as far as I know, there is no way to "unregister" here).

Compared to other forums I have been on, this one is quite civil. Several years ago, I was on a rangefinder camera forum. I asked the members if anyone used a fountain pen. I got publicly blasted by the moderator for being OT. The mods here are relatively permissive. When you have a moderator who rules with an iron fish, you'll have a forum with very, very little activity. I would rather see more participation and the occasional jerk who needs to trash someone.

Any forum is only as good as the members/contributors. There are a lot of great folks on this one!

The "trolls" that pop up, now and then, may indeed be disgruntles members using another name,

or...just some idiots that like to stir up trouble, where ever they go? It's unfortunate, when it happens,

but those kinds are everywhere. Seems (to me, anyway) we have much fewer of them, than a lot

of other forums. And, this forum is very active, compared to a lot of others, as well. I think as long as

it stays helpful, friendly, with a good sense of humor and self-regulation, it will not only remain popular,

but grow, as well.

Since it's my thread, I'm going to go OT for a moment. I don't see G&L's mentioned here much, but I have a friend that is selling one at a very good price. If anyone is interested in buying or just looking at pics, PM me. I don't want to get into "another brand" topic in any great detail. It is worth a look even if you are not interested in buying - I'll give you the link when you PM me if you are interested.

Oh, and Jeffery: +1,000

I've only been here a few months, so I have no idea of what the old days were like around here.

But right now, it seems civil, there are lots of educated opinions, good banter. Hell, I like it here.

Nobody likes any kind of censorship, and trolls stirring up the pot are annoying anywhere, but it all comes with the territory.

I think of the Moderator here more or less as an Enlightened Despot as opposed to an outright Tyrant. LOL

This forum is my first stop every morning. I do belong to other forums, none give me info and GAS like this one.

Epi GAS is good!!

I have to add my .02 and say that the forum at this time seems to be very positive and this can only be a good thing.

But, and I'm sure others will agree, there was a huge amount of knowledge that left with some very fine members.

I'm not aware of anybody saying this place is "all bad".

But after a two month suspension, for merely mentioning another website, this place is not one of my favorite places anymore. Like the other member mentioned, I too use to come to this site first thing everyday. But now that my suspension is over, this place is 2nd or 3rd on my list of sites to visit first. I still visit, just not as much. I still visited as a guest when I was suspended. And epiphone is still a line of guitars that I am interested in.

There is a still good information to be found on here from members.

But if I want some intelligent, meaningful, communication on music, guitars, life, this place just doesn't give me the opportunity to do that. Unless, of course, it's done within their guidelines. I have enough people and institutions telling me what I can and can't do already. Don't need anymore.

It's okay, I guess. I mean there are some debates here that got pretty heated and turned pretty ugly. I hardly come on here unless I need advice to modify my G400 (it's the only electric guitar I got and I love it so much). I might get a Fender next so if that time comes, you'll see me hanging around the Fender forum or something.

I too am new to this forum and I enjoy reading and contributing to the posts. I have no idea what it was like and to tell the truth, I don't care. The past is behind lets live and post in the present.

I would think that some discussion of other brands could be a healthy thing for Epi - nothing like comparing and contrasting the competition in my mind. On the other hand if Epi didn't feel like they could compete with other brands then I could see why they would shut any discussion down about non-epi products.

Yeah enjoy that Fender forum. It actually closes on nights and weekends. Seriously.

some places on the net are serious no no's. any kind of interaction on youtube gets you slated straight away. post any kind of video. man thats instant dejection!:-s shear hatred on that site.

i had a gripe with cakewalk and mentioned it on the forum i did end up with my money back but the members just wanted to destroy you for no good reason. some are young and some are sado's i suppose.

I guess you have to realize that this is a manufacturer's forum and the rules state that off topic posts will not be allowed, or rather that posts should be on topic. An occassional OT post is overlooked, but unfounded rants about Epiphone are deleted and I tend to agree with the forum moderator that some control is expected.

OTOH, I think that both pro and con posts are helpful. A manufacturer's forum should be a place where suggestions are used to improve the product. If you ignore comments about problems, you continue to build in the same manufacturing errors. One of those is the problem with the high 11th through 13th frets that everyone seems to have problems with on the LP model. Both of my Epi LPs have come in with a high fret in that area. My friend had the same problem. In all cases, they were tapped down and the problem was solved. Maybe a comment from the moderator that the thread has been passed to the QC managers at the plant would be in order.

In most forums that I have frequented, the moderator stops in and posts when comments and questions are directed to the moderator. That happens very infrequently, even when a moderator post could solve and prevent long threads that turn into arguements.

All in all, this is a very good forum. A lot of the ill will that has been experienced has been from people who lost their temper and got banned. There have also been some who maybe should have not been banned.

Not saying that this needs to be done here, but at the RIC forum even the CEO (John Hall) of the company pops in every now and then to correct misconceptions or to just add his .02.

Other RIC employees help out in the technical areas.

I've only been a member here for a few months, but this forum is so much more user (and people) friendly than the other 3 forums i'm a member of(all under this screen name) that Epi will remain my #1 forum.

Their guitars are really good instruments, and they manage to keep them affordable( compared to some other companies).

Several members advice helped guide me to the purchase of a really nice Sheraton, which is my 2nd Epi.

Theres always a little bad with anything good, but it can be used as a "qualifier" when put in perspective.

I find this forum to be civil and quite helpful. Wish I could contribute more but I am a new Epi owner' date=' and loving it.[/quote']

Heck, I don't even own an Epi anymore and I still come around here occasionally just because it is one of the more mature corners of an otherwise immature internet.

Well, that and the pictures.

Which lead to GAS.

Which'll lead to me finally buying that Sheraton this winter.

Which in turn will give me a real reason to come here as an Epi owner once more.

And I'll look at more pretty pictures.

Which will give me more GAS.

Which'll lead to finally buying a Casino...

etc.

I like this site, too, CB, although it does seem to me that some there has been some unfairness here in terms of some people who have been banned, and a few people here were very mean to a younger member at one point. So, nowhere's perfect. Perhaps these are the idiots.

Also, it can get annoying as I think you experienced at one point, when threads are suddenly removed or shut down.

One of the things I like about this site, in addition to the friendliness, is the site design. The Rickenbacker site is appalling in that regard. I do wish, however, that images could be posted here without having to have them stored elsewhere.

I've never been able to tell what caused someone to be banned as their membership and the offending thread both disappear simultaneously.

Lately, the worst thing that has happened is the chap who keeps posting spam for counterfeit athletic shoes.

WHAT' date=' counterfeit???? What the hell am I going to do with 10 pairs of counterfeit shoes. Hmmm, maybe sell them at the Fender forum.

Well, at least I still have my free Casino from Epi on the way he says with wishful thoughts
