Claes Cornelius
Hello everyone! I'm a newbie here (first posting) but here's something about the SG: Having had a half-destroyed SG Special from the 60s that then perished, I much later got a new one - both Gibsons. I then suddenly spotted an Epi SG Junior G-310-JR-CH alongsides a LP Junior in a shop - at rock-bottom price tags. On the spur of the moment, I got them both! At the back of the headstock of my fave SG, there's a "made in Indonesia" sticker, another one with some sort of factory OK with a hand-written note and (for fact-freaks) the serial number is S198050380. But why all the fuss, you'd ask? It's a monster guitar and just yesterday I had a wood expert noticing it, in a corner: "what's that over there - let me see it up close" and then praising it. A female friend also asked me to recommend "what's a cheap guitar that doesn't weigh a ton"... but those Epis aren't made anymore. Besides those 2 Epi Juniors, I also have a Casino, Riviera 12-string and a bass. Can anyone here recommend an Epi SG that sounds killer but isn't too expensive? charlie brown
Hmmm, first...what's "too expensive?" If you like p-90's, the Gibson "Traditional" SG is great! $999 at MF, or...Used, on E-bay from $650 up. The Epi "Faded" SG Classic...quite similar to a '61 (quite often with bound necks) are nice to. A LOT of people here, seem to mod the pickups, no matter which Epi they get. So...?? I'm sure others here will pipe in, with their recommendations, as well. Cheers, CB
thunderstruck507
I would say the SG is a screamer, the LP is a growler my guitars have the exact same pickups, the SG has a bright thin biting tone and the LP has a crunchy but deeper and more full sound...you can tell the brightness is still in its tone, but it meshes in with the extra low end the lp also has notably more sustain
