AmPau Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 I am interested in the Elitist Casino at the moment. I was doing a bit of research and from what I see as far as hardware is a dif color but everything else is just about the same on the elitist as the lennon model casino. I am basically jus trying to get that same sound. I see the pickups are a bit dif on the casino to the elitist, and the body is made a bit dif. Anyone have both that could help me out on the sound Im lookin for? All help appreciated in advance and thank you. Paul
Whitmore Willy Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 AmPau, Not being a Casino man I'm not much help. I did look at the specs and they do seem to be very similar. What kind of sealers do they use on them? Nitro? Polly? The Lennon's at MF say they use "original 60's tooling"...not sure what that means. They also list as having oversize headstock. Also something about the numbers on the inside lable. The Epi site says part of the preceeds go to the J.L. scholarship fund. Other than that I don't see alot of obvious difference either.
AmPau Posted September 23, 2008 Author Posted September 23, 2008 Original Lennon I believe I read had varnish on his unsanded version. New ones I read somewhere have polyeurethane. As far as the JL guitar I like it. Looking for that sound. Only dif I see between the JL model and the elitist is the color of the hardware is dif. and no signature which I can live without. So basically tryin to get something as close to the lennon model without payin the lennon model price.
JefferySmith Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 Beware of the fellow on fleabay who is changing the tuners on a stock Casino and selling it as a "modded" JL Casino. Lennon's model has a thin coat of what should be nitro on it. I'm not sure it is worth the huge disparity in price over an Elitist Casino.
Greg Curtis Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 I just bought my Casino Elitist 2 weeks ago and its beautiful. I got it in the natural color and am working on changing it over to a JL look a like. Already have the black groomet for the switch and a new E truss rod cover is on the way. It has the poly finish not the nitro which as far as I can see is the only real difference between the 2. I like the poly finish it looks and feels great. Sounds excellent thru my Fender amp. Sort of a jangly sound like the 60's music from the Beatles was. I don't think the extra grand is worth it for the JL over the elitist. Just my .02 cents!
AmPau Posted September 23, 2008 Author Posted September 23, 2008 ty very much greg. You dont happen to have a regular casino to compare the elitist to do you? Hoping someone can confirm / deny that that two sound alike or not. Also Greg if you dont mind could you put up some photos of the case in and out was tryin to get more info on the case that comes with the elitist. Thanx
Red 333 Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 Regular Casino: Well made guitar, good for the money. Elitist Casino: Professional level instrument built with exacting craftmanship, superior woods, superior electronics, thinner poly finsh, and USA pick ups. Excellent value and performance. A BIG step up from the standard Casino. Lennon Casino: Same as Elitist, except finish is nitrocellulous laquer instead of ultra thin poly (satin on the Revolution); nut is vintage correct nylon, instead of bone; saddles are vintage correct nylon, instead of metal. Vintage style tuners on the '65, (gold) Grovers on the Revolution (the Elitist has Grovers, as well). Other cosmetic differences with the Elitist include a beveled headstock, somehat more finely figured wood, etc. The pick ups may also be different. These guitars have a little more snarl than the Elitists, but it may also be an effect of ther nylon saqddles.
AmPau Posted September 23, 2008 Author Posted September 23, 2008 grrr tryin to figure out how to ask w/o getting banned lol. Thanx for info red. If possible could you PM me if you know where I can pick up the nylon saddles ect to get it closer to the lennon ?
Greg Curtis Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 Going to post the pics here to see if they came out okay. And no, I don't have a regular casino to compare the two guitars.
Greg Curtis Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 I must have something wrong in my computer when its on this wsebsite because I can't seem to post pics here. This is the second time I tried this and all I get are the boxes with the red x's. I'm clicking on the mountains and then pasting the pic between the img brackets. Any ideas?

Paul[/quote'] When I saw your posting I assumed you were going to ask about Elitist Casino versus the Korean or Chinese or where ever the cheaper ones are made. I picked up cheaper Casinos at music stores and just did not like the feel or the apparent lack of quality. I never even got to see an Elitist in a music store but read so much good about them, I thought I had to have one and after 2 tries, I got a good one from Sweetwater( First one from MF was set up terribly and had all kinds of rattles, bridge, and buzzes frets). It is the first Epiphone I have ever had that I didn't wish it said Gibson at the headstock. The neck, the playability, the binding, the sound, the intonation, you name it, it has it all!!!! If you are into a very heavily distorted sound, this guitar almost forces you to want to play clean so you can hear the powerful fullness of the hollow body.

The image has to be loaded on a server other than this one. The forum site doesn't store the photos...it links them from their site elsewhere. Also, you don't give the URL of the other site...you have to give the URL of the photo. You do this by right-clicking on the photo, cutting and pasting the "properties" line giving the link to the jpg. This goes between the two brackets that come up when you click the photo icon above.
Greg Curtis Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 Thanks Jeffery, I uploaded the pics from Photobucket but must have done it wrong as my process isn't the same as the one you just gave me. I printed out your response so next time hopefully they will take.
AmPau Posted September 25, 2008 Author Posted September 25, 2008 Thanx for the help everyone. Ill be going with an casino elitist. Greg ever get the photos to work ?
Ron G Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 Thanks Jeffery' date=' I uploaded the pics from Photobucket but must have done it wrong as my process isn't the same as the one you just gave me. I printed out your response so next time hopefully they will take.[/quote']Do it the easy way. Underneath your pics on PhotoBucket, there are 4 "items" listed, the last one being "IMG Code". When you click on "IMG Code", the code gets copied to the clipboard. Then paste (Ctrl V) it to the body of your post.
Greg Curtis Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 Alright trying this pics thing again.
Greg Curtis Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 Thanks Ron, much easier to do! I tinks I got it finally!
AmPau Posted September 25, 2008 Author Posted September 25, 2008 That is sooo cool thank you. Im definetley getting an elitist model. Really appreciate all the help everyone it is much appreciated. Ill repost on here when I get it have some more photos to add to the collection.
eldorado2001 Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 I bought a standard (MIC) Casino recently, and it is well made, nice finish, the hardware is good but the pickups lack definition. That's really my only complaint. The sound is acceptable but could be much better IMO.
