jozluck Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 What is a good replacement set for the Joe Pass...personally, I think it's a darn Emporor with Joe Pass tabs...but the 11 years has mellowed the wood and it sounds sweet...so... GFS .... P90....any ideas...anyone. Gibson 490 set, Seymoure duncan? I play blues, indie/folksy, country mostly. Little rock....but want a full, ture tone with that gibson crunch on the down plam licks...if you know what I mean.
charlie brown Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Well, '57's (Gibby's) would be my choice, in that situation. But, if you don't want to spend Gibson prices, the GFS '59's might be just the ticket? Sure are a lot of folks around here, with "glowing" endorsements, of those pickups. CB

I have a set on my Sheraton and couldn't be more pleased.

[b'][/b] I've heard very good reports on ToneRiders, they are also a hell of a lot cheaper than Gibson Classic '57's at £ 25 per pick-up! You can get them new on EBAY...
layboomo Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 There a few ways you can go with GFS...the vintage 59's for humbucker tones alot like Gibby 57's ...or my favorite for a bluesy bite the Mean 90's like I put in my JP. I play with a plain third and bend a fair amount on this guitar and I like the tones! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zk_43pFCDXw

The get you in to that P-90 land at a fraction of the cost of som other pups.
Nic Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 I'm planning on putting a 57' classic on my Joe Pass in a couple weeks. The reason I chose this pick up is because it used on every Gibson guitar I want to buy, in particular, the jazz boxes that are similar to the Emperor II. Since this is the third thread on this subject in as many weeks I will promise to provide a review after its done.
