1988 Sheraton Question

hey guys, there's a guitar i'm interested in, but the seller says it's made in Japan, when by most accounts it seems to be made in Korea by Samick. Here's the posting for the sale. I would love if someone would check it out and let me know if they think it's a good deal, a bad deal, or any general opinions. The owner says the headstock says Epiphone by Gibson, and i've heard that means it's Korean. Does that make it less valuable than if it were made in Japan?

Hey i've got an Epiphone Sheraton from 1988, made in Japan. Epiphones of this time were built in a much better factory than the newer Korean ones.

Beautiful guitar with way nicer aesthetics than a gibson of 3+ times the price. Sweet inlays with carved front/back, bound neck/body/headstock. All the goods!

This is the same guitar from the same year but not the exact guitar. Don't ask for pictures because I do not own a camera and the guitar is indistinguishable from this one! (but with new pickups)

Excellent condition, plays well, has big black singlecoils in em handwound by Harmonic Design. gives you the dynamic of a singlecoil with the fat sound of a humbucker

heres the pickups http://www.harmonicdesign.net/allpages/gibsons.html

they were 400 dollars to put in a few years ago. Sound amazing, any reviews will agree.

i would say this is one of the best semi-hollowbodies you will get for the price. Comes with hardshell case.

peace be with ya!

I have to get my catalogs out again..

but I know that when I bought my Samick, the catalog came with another sheraton that had made by gibson, while mine had

gibson trussrod cover.

my samick has it's serial number printed in black numbers beneath the clearcoat.

You need the serial number freaks to be sure, though.

serial number does designate origin and that one has no korean or chinese indication so..

very well could be.

It's definitely a Korean-made Epiphone. I have one too....and its gorgeous...plays excellent and its really well made.

Its NOT as expensive as a Japanese Sheraton....but if you can get it for...maybe 600 dollars or so....I really recommend it.

BTW....the serial number on these guitars is printed on a sticker....on the back of the headstock. Theres no way to tell when it was exactly made....I can tell you it's between 1986-1988 (maybe even an early 1989).
