joezakkwaldrianifan Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 Hello everyone. I recently bought my first guitar from music shop ( I had bought lousy strato copy 10 years earlier from one of used stuff shop ) I like my Epiphone SG guitar but I want to know its exact model. And I also want to know if it is a fake. It is from music instrument seller so it should be okay. Anyway the serial is UC08035358 The receipt says it is G400 SG61 cherry. Some pictures which I have about these models differ a little from mine and I want to know if I payed higher price from cheaper SG 400 special model.
old rock Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 This website claims to have a G400 SG 61 Cherry. Enlarge the photo and see if it's your guitar. http://www.aofsound.fi/epages/aofsound.axl/?ObjectPath=/Shops/aofsound/Products/Epi_00050
neptune2000 Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 The serial # is legit I think, UC means made in Unsung China factory, on March 2008. I used the guitar dater project website, http://www.guitardaterproject.org/epiphone.aspx UC wasn't recognized, but according to our community's factory list, it's as I stated above. Of course all this just means that your serial # appears to be legit.
jcwillow777 Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 UC = Unsung China Check out the link below, does it look like it? They have them in silver burst and cherry. http://www.guitarcenter.com/Epiphone-Limited-Edition-1966-G-400-Electric-Guitar-102676350-i1166714.gc

His should look like the standard G-400 ("half" pickguard)
joezakkwaldrianifan Posted September 26, 2008 Author Posted September 26, 2008 Thanks for your answers so far. My guitar looks quite much like this http://www.guitarcenter.com/Epiphone-G-400-SG-Electric-Guitar-100042754-i1149971.gc Choose the red one. As far as I know colour is either worn cherry or classic cherry. Anyway I will post pictures in couple days. Have to go for a short trip now.
Stevie Nazarenie Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 mines the 62. what is the difference from the 61? also what wood is that? it looks like my old sg but it's not supposed to be real mahogany? looks close to me.
joezakkwaldrianifan Posted September 28, 2008 Author Posted September 28, 2008 Ok. I got some shaky pictures because I don't have anything to hold my camera still. ( or my arms are shaking....I didn't know I am THAT old ) This is my first trial with photobucket. Link is to album. Hopefully it works. SG 61 reissue hopefully
SkEpTiKaL Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 Ok. I got some shaky pictures because I don't have anything to hold my camera still. ( or my arms are shaking....I didn't know I am THAT old ) This is my first trial with photobucket. Link is to album. Hopefully it works. SG 61 reissue hopefully You linked to your gallery perfectly. I'll give you a little help: Looks good! Congrats
joezakkwaldrianifan Posted September 29, 2008 Author Posted September 29, 2008 Thank you SkEpTiKaL. So I think that I have genuine Epiophone SG and i think it is something better than special models but which one ? And I also would like to know differences between 61 and 62 reissue. And does my guitar have almico V humbuckers or classic humbuckers or are they actually same ? Oh and one question out of topic. My thinnest string is sounding a bit low in volume. Pickups seem to have as many screws as strings. Could those screws be used for volume adjustment?
Stevie Nazarenie Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 ahh! mine has the snot green tuners. are your fret markers solid white or mop-ish?
joezakkwaldrianifan Posted September 29, 2008 Author Posted September 29, 2008 ahh! mine has the snot green tuners. are your fret markers solid white or mop-ish? You mean those markers between frets ? They are same as Epiphone text at the head. Are there any pictures for this 62 reissue in any dealers web page?
Stevie Nazarenie Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 shoot yes i just saw them in the pic. wow mine are just white plastic. mind you mine is from 2000 and made in korea. i'm sure mine was a 62 but i've seen yours a few times called a 62. anyway here's mine. http://www.nevadamusic.co.uk/Guitars/Electric_Guitars/Electric/sc1437/p58.aspx
joezakkwaldrianifan Posted September 29, 2008 Author Posted September 29, 2008 shoot yes i just saw them in the pic. wow mine are just white plastic. mind you mine is from 2000 and made in korea. i'm sure mine was a 62 but i've seen yours a few times called a 62. anyway here's mine. http://www.nevadamusic.co.uk/Guitars/Electric_Guitars/Electric/sc1437/p58.aspx Seems that these SG-400 beauties are only different in colour and price. g-400 vintage 179 pounds g-400 229 Or is there any real reason why g-400 vintage is 50 pounds cheaper ?
Stevie Nazarenie Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 mine is more wine red than cherry. the same as the gibbo i had back in the 80's. i bought mine in 2000 and i think i paid around £229 back then maybe £239. yes the difference seems to be the finish? worn cherry as apposed to cherry. i think worn cherry is like the faded series? i think on the faded series there is a lot less laquer and time spent doing it. http://www.nevadamusic.co.uk/Guitars/Electric_Guitars/Electric/sc1437/p3113.aspx http://www.nevadamusic.co.uk/Guitars/Electric_Guitars/Electric/sc1437/p6890.aspx the difference between the sg special faded and normal sg special is £100...
Stevie Nazarenie Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 i just took another look your finish... not sure!
joezakkwaldrianifan Posted September 30, 2008 Author Posted September 30, 2008 i just took another look your finish... not sure! Yep. Hard to tell. Anyway I think that I wasn't robbed much if any. And guitar has stayed in tune for a week already and played 1 hour a day in average. I will be off from these forums ( but keep reading posts for other models just for fun ) as I get a peace of mind in this matter. Either my guitar is 61 reissue or not but it seem to be close enough. Thank you for your answers. Keep playing.
Guitar Chico Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 Ok. I got some shaky pictures because I don't have anything to hold my camera still. ( or my arms are shaking....I didn't know I am THAT old ) This is my first trial with photobucket. Link is to album. Hopefully it works. SG 61 reissue hopefully Well, it looks like you have a g400 (albeit a faded g400 but to my knowledge they're the same) which, according to the epiphone website, is a copy of the 62 sg. It seems like you wanted the 61 sg (at least thats what your link says). I'd say sorry but, the g400 is a great guitar and I don't think you will be disappointed. GC
Demigawd Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 Sorry if I am off topic here but what is the difference between the '61 and '62 SG looking at pictures of them I can't see a difference.
Stevie Nazarenie Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 it seems both our epis are 62. tuners, fret markers and finish. although i'd like those fret markers and tuners. the real sg would just have a choice of either?
JestersTear1 Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 It's identical to mine. It's a standard newer type G-400 which is based on the '62 SG. Mine is a 2006 EE serial from Qing Dao. Mine also had those clear pup stickers on it.
