MWGuitarman Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 Ok, about 6 months ago I sold my Epi Les Paul standard plus top. I bought a 2008 USA fender strat. Try as I might, I could not get use to it and the sound was just sooooo crappy. I guess my ears only love one sound... the LP. Anyway, after about 6 months of dating I dumped her like yesterdays tacos. . Today, my new love entered my world and everthing is RIGHT. I've been away too long. My new 2007 Epi les paul Elistist, she's mint.
lespauljames Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 nice axe, one proud owner! lovin the funky case, can i ahve it for my explorer lol joke, id have to cut some unsavoury holes in it
TWANG Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 beauty. I've been lusting for an elitist lp.. I like that case interior, too! sweet top on that baby! TWANG
MWGuitarman Posted September 26, 2008 Author Posted September 26, 2008 beauty. I've been lusting for an elitist lp.. I like that case interior' date=' too!sweet top on that baby! TWANG[/quote'] I've been doing a ton of research. This or a used Gibson Studio. After much research, there's realy no comparison unless you like paying for the Gibson name. I would like to have a USA guitar, just out of pride for my country. For a camparable gibson, with a flame top, I just couldn't afford it. This guitar leaves me wanting for nothing. 2007 was the last year they were made. Gibson stopped the production. Aparantly, too many people were wising up and buying these instead of the Gibson Studios. Now I know why.
charlie brown Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 Congratulations, MW....great looking LP! I'm SURE you will LOVE it! Elitists are wonderful guitars, bar none! Enjoy! CB
V-Type Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 The Elitist LP's Ive played were Stellar guitars. Easily as good or Better than most Gibson mid grade LP's and IMO better than the Edwards and the Burny's.. Beautiful Guitar OP and a Excellent finish
TheX Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 I have 2 Elitist LP's and LOVE them. congrats
JefferySmith Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 I don't have a single Elitist solidbody guitar, and I keep feeling like the ship is leaving the dock.
ken361 Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 what kinda music did you play? Do standard strats suck for hard rock and metal?
MWGuitarman Posted September 26, 2008 Author Posted September 26, 2008 what kinda music did you play? Do standard strats suck for hard rock and metal? Yes. I play mostly classic rock, modern rock, a little bit of metallica, a little bit of SRV, etc. Um yeah, the strat came with single coils. I put a seymour duncan jb jr in the bridge and a seymour duncan little '59 in the bridge (Essentially two humbuckers). It made it better, but it couldn't do anything half way heave with any soul. NO TONE. The sustain was TERRIBLE in contrast to a les pauls. Some times I would need to cheat and give the note an extra pick to keep the note going. I'm sure Fenders are great guitars for some people just not me. I'll hit a note on this elitist and it will keep going and going and going and going. I will say the necks on the USA strats are a million times better than that on a mexican strat (which I've owned in the past). The burs on the ends of the mexican frets could cut your fingers off. The USA next have hand bent frets and are as smooth as butter. Anyway, all the talk about Elitists is NOT hype. I may never buy another guitar again, unless I find a great deal on another Elitist. The sad thing is 2007 was the last year. ONE Negative... I am objective so I will point out the ONE thing I don't like. The stock USA pickups are a little bit noisy when I turn the amp up. More so than the Gibson 498T and 490R I had in my old Epi LP standard plus top. They sound great, just a little noisy (feedback).
thunderstruck507 Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 congrats, looks just like mine did stock i uncovered the pickups and put a zebra in the neck, ditched the guard these are amazing instruments indeed...
Greg Curtis Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 Picked up a Casino Elitist a couple of weeks ago and love it. Good looking LP you've got there MV. Hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy mine. They really are works of art!
brandonrules99 Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 haha nice lookin epi. and i dont blame you for saying that fender sounded horrible. i think all fenders suck
Just Strum Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 Sweet looking LP. I'm not an LP guy, but pics like this are making me reconsider that.
Curtoons Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 I've been doing a ton of research. 2007 was the last year they were made. Gibson stopped the production. These are still available in limited quantities.... see? Looks like they've bumped up the asking price on the remaining stock of all Elitists. Get one while you can.
wiltshire willy Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 Bro You made the right choice, there is no comparison as far as the epi and a studio go,real guitarists dont buy a guitar to think of its resale value but i feel many do ,especially when picking Gibson over Epiphone ..Looks like you got yourself a keeper there my friend rock on W W
Svet Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 Congratulations MW! The Elitists are fantastic guitars as you are finding out! The Elitist cases are real bonus too huh?!?
MWGuitarman Posted September 27, 2008 Author Posted September 27, 2008 Congratulations MW! The Elitists are fantastic guitars as you are finding out! The Elitist cases are real bonus too huh?!? No Doubt. They really did it right. Too bad they stopped production. By far, the best deal out there.
JEPI Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 Congrats MW. Very nice guitar. I've never played an Elitist, but trust what our forum members here say about them and would certainly consider buying one. Seems like a 'no-brainer' when you look at the cost of a gibby and what members here have said, the Epi Elistist is a superior instrument and far better bang for the buck. My Epi LP is one guitar, I cannot see parting with. 'Til death do us part' lol I hope you get many years of joy from your Elitist. Just a note about the Strats sustain and playability. Over the years I've had 3 Mustangs, (all USA), 3 teles, ( 1 USA, 1 MIM and 1 Indo Squier Custom) and 2 Strats. Didn't like the Mustangs, couldn't play the USA Tele, loved the MIM Tele but it was stolen and absolutely love the Squier Custom, although with the humbuckers its a challenge to get the traditional sound of a Tele. As for the Strats sustain and tone: I can't recall how long it took me to realize the full potential of a Strat, (definitely more than 6 months), but in my stage days, it became my #1 ax. With a vast tone spectrum, I found it to be much more versatile than any Gibby that I had, including an SG, ES330, ES335-12 (sometimes played with just six strings) and several LPs. Regarding sustain, IMO, that's an amp issue the same as with Gibbys, although not entirely. Once I learned the "personality/characteristic" of the Strat, it delivered all the sustain I needed particularly after I learned how to use the volume and tone knobs efficiently. Finally, what I find incredible about my Epi LP, is that with stock pickups, it is MUCH more versatile, tone/sound wise and playability than the Gibbys... Very interesting, hard to believe, but true! Again, CONGRATS......................J
shagy Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 congrats MWguitarman!!! sweet guitar!! how much did you pay for ir???
Bender 4 Life Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 I don't have a single Elitist solidbody guitar' date=' and I keep feeling like the ship is leaving the dock.[/quote']+1 on that, except I don't have an Elitist ANYTHING. Got 2 Gibsons, that tone for tone were greatly overpriced compared to my Epi's. Which Hollowbody SINGLEcut Elitist do y'all suggest for my next "hunt"??
MWGuitarman Posted September 28, 2008 Author Posted September 28, 2008 congrats MWguitarman!!! sweet guitar!! how much did you pay for ir??? $785 Shipped.
