tube confusion

i know nothing about tubes...

could you tell me something about these (i want to know which are interchangeable ect. especially because i can't find some of them new anywhere...)

12au7

5U4

6BA6

6AU6

6V6

6C4

6CA4

6GW8/ECL86

 

I'm having trouble finding 6BA6, 6AU6, and 6GW8/ECL86 new (there are some NOS on ebay, but eventually those will be gone...)

I've dealt with Eurotubes, good people. Send them an e-mail or call them, they will be very helpful. I don't know anything about the other place guitarslinger recommended, but I would imagine they would be the same in answering your questions.

Some of those you will not find except as NOS or used. You'll have to check with someone that sells NOS tubes, such as the tube depot, Doug's tubes, KCA tubes, etc.

Generally, the '12' tubes are preamp tubes, the '5' tube should be a rectifier, and the '6' tubes are output tubes. :-)

 

The links that guitarslinger gave you should be *very* helpful! :-)
