Lukesterspy Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 Hey guys, I am new to these forums, but anyways, I have a few questions. The ebony Epi Les Paul Studio's paint job is black, but I am just wondering if it is shiny/glossy like other ebony Les Pauls? I personally don't really want it to be too shiny, but I am just asking you guys. Also, if I get it, are their any mods that you guys would recommend for me to possibly eventually do to it (I will probably get new strings right off the bat on it, any recommendations on good strings for this guitar)?
alcorn429 Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 The answer to your first question is that yes it is glossy. As far as your second question goes, thats up to you dude. personally, I thought it sounded great the way it was for metal, but it really depends on your ears and what you think as to wether or not you wanna throw some new pups in.
Demigawd Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 The ebony is a very high gloss black, looks very nice but it will show all the dust, dirt, fingerprints, and scratches. I think the only way to get one with a matte black finish is to get one of the "Goth" versions.
Lukesterspy Posted September 29, 2008 Author Posted September 29, 2008 Alright, cool, thanks guys. I just really like how it looks in this picture, but oh well. I am guessing that if it is good for metal, then some distortion and stuff will work well with the pups that come with it. Does anyone have a good explanation of the what arctic blue one looks like? I can't really get a good idea of it from pictures on the internet.
Ricochet Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 You could knock some of that gloss off with very fine sandpaper. The Poly finish is thick enough to buff to a high gloss again if you get bored with the look. I think it's a fine guitar for metal alltho I probably would change the pickups.
SkEpTiKaL Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 If you don't like glossy and you want to play metal, why not get the Goth Studio? Satin (Non-Glossy) Black Finish, Black Hardware, Cool Inlay, what more could you want? Link To Goth LP Studio
