Nube guitar string question

Hi guys.

I am 1 month new to guitars and music. I have a new G-400 which I like as a good starter guitar. What I have recently noticed is that the A string vibrates much more than the others. I mean when I strum all strings the A just keeps vibrating. It also seems to be sympathetic to my #1 E string. When I hit E string the A also vibrates. Do I have a "bad" guitar that needs to go back to MF? Or is it normal to have some resonate freq. that different guitars vibrate to?

I have new strings and I think intonation is adjusted OK.

When I get to the point where I can play a couple of chords in a row will this become un noticeable?

I have a 50 year old $50 Kingston that does not seem to have this problem.

thanks

rbc,

Ef_in_fla raises good points about nut and bridge.

It has been pointed out in other posts that unfortunately, all we can do is speculate on the information given when dealing with "sonic" situations.

Without playing the guitar it is hard to tell.

Sympathetic vibration can be caused by a number of things. Instrument materials, structure, hardware are a few.

String guage and string composition can have an effect.

Pickup height can be a factor. Does this happen only when plugged in or all the time?

Nothing personal here... but...having just started playing, proximity to your amp, even how hard you pick can be factors.

I used to play with a keyboard player. If I was close enough to his amp, I could grab the same note on my guitar and get smpathetic harmonic vibrations on my guitar. I could then control the harmonic frequencies by how hard I squeezed the note. That was a good thing.

W Willy, it happens unplugged or plugged. It doesn't seem to have any relation to amp as it happens unplugged. Nut and bridge "seem " to be OK.

I didn't notice when I first installed strings but maybe I just didn't know what to hear.

As long as this not considered a guitar problem I will put up with it and also fool around with bridge a little, maybe pick up height also.

thanks

Have you ever changed the strings? The epiphones can be notorious with coming from the factory with crappy strings. Well most guitars are like that. I'd change the strings before you mess with it too much. Since your a beginner I'd get light gauge strings.

Something else that hasn't been mentioned:

You bought from MF, but have you taken it to a local shop for a good setup? cost you about 30$, but they'll adjust the neck (if needed), intonation, and several other things.

Since you are new, is it possible you are hitting both strings, but not realizing it. (I did that a lot - still do at times) :-k

But now that I consider that possibility, it would change the problem from string #1E to string #6E.

I've been in learning mode for about 2 years, and I don't see that ending any time in the near future.

AJ98,I live in lower keys and there really aren't any shops locally. Would probably have to travel to Miami, a 3 hour drive. HA.

I guess my real question is this string sympathy a serious problem that I need to change out guitar or just keep doing minor things until prob. goes away.

I'd imagine there are a healthy number of guitar players down there in the Keys. Maybe you could find one that could check it out and give you an opinion? (Bring your axe by Sloppy Joes and catch the "band of the night's" guitar player on break lol.) This sounds like one of those problems that needs to be checked in person.
