What´s up you guys?!

My name is Mateus, from Brasil...

I´d like to get information about my guitar... All I know is that it was built in '86, at a korean factory...

Could someone tell me how good/bad could it be? I mean, about the wood used to built it, and the pickups and stuff... Is it better if we compare to the 2008 chinese ones, for example?

All i heard was the late 80's were good, better than the ones made after '01...

Thanks for the responses and sorry for my broken english...

Going by your avatar picture, it's not an '80's model. They had Gibson style headstocks until the '90's.

There is a photo of an 89 epi lp in here:

The headstock doesn't look exactly like a gibson... But similar... It certainly looks quite different than the avatar

Here is anothre 80s epi les paul:

You may have a 1996 model...

Numbers starting with 6 were built in 1996...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epiphone

What is the exact serial number ? Does it start with a letter ? If yes, what letter ?

Korea

I = Saein

U = Unsung

S = Samick

P or R = Peerless

K = Korea

China

DW = DeaWon

EA = Gibson/QingDao

EE = Gibson/QingDao

MC = Muse

SJ = SaeJung

Z = Zaozhuang Saehan

BW = China

Japan

No letter or F = FujiGen

J or T = Terada

Czech Republic

B = Bohêmia Musico-Delicia

Indonesia

SI = Samick

Example: U8034853 U = Unsung, 8 = 1998, 03 = March, 4853 = manufacturing number."

So, according to wikipedia, 6054155 would be a japanese (no letter) may 96´ guitar?

Epiphone didn't start manufacturing the LP until 1988 in the Samick factory according to the book "Epiphone The Complete History" so it is not an '86 model.

Also according to the book, the "Orville" line was started in '91 and produced in Japan. I think that these were the Epi's that had the Gibby headstock and this continued on to the MIJ LP's.

The early Korean models had the tape serial number on them w/o the plant letter. I'm also pretty sure that the numbers were random so finding an exact build year would be difficult. You might say that this one is a late '80's or early '90's LP unless of course it is stamped "used" or "2nd" on the headstock.

This would open up a whole new can of worms.
