CVM Posted October 5, 2008 Posted October 5, 2008 I am looking for some Fake Epiphones for my Epiphone collection to display alongside the real Epiphones. Counterfeiting guitars is not a good thing and I do not condone it, however these counterfeit guitars are part of guitar history (and and as long as they are properly labeled as such no collection could be complete with out them). Thanks, Rich
Bender 4 Life Posted October 5, 2008 Posted October 5, 2008 The best place to start would probably be E-bay..........you can use the real vs. fake pics from the "fights counterfeit guitars" link on Gibsons Lifestyle page to help identify potential fakes. I know you said Epis......but the counterfeiting methods are the same. Be aware though that knowingly buying a counterfeit, is as illegal as knowingly selling one.
layboomo Posted October 5, 2008 Posted October 5, 2008 "Be aware though that knowingly buying a counterfeit, is as illegal as knowingly selling one..." I wouldn't worry too much about the guitar police...LOL...but I question why you would want such a POS???:)
acewarslave Posted October 5, 2008 Posted October 5, 2008 funny you should mention the selling of a fake epi when i bought mine the fake i didnt by it by choice.. but people who i spoke to kept saying to me to resell it and let some other sucker have it..that just isnt me..i wont do the same thing to somone eles the prick that sold me the guitar is scum...the ace epi is just a reminder 4 me...

CVM is your willing buyer (use PM). You won't be "scum" if you sell it to him/her. Hit every BLUE NOTE baaaby..., I'm going to play on:-"

NIce to see that honesty is more valuable than a few dollars to somebody else on here, I commend your honesty. I wasn't worried about the "guitar police"......Just wanted to make sure everyone was aware.

epilover9568 Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 "Be aware though that knowingly buying a counterfeit' date=' is as illegal as knowingly selling one..."[/quote'] Where are you getting this information from ? Are you sure of this ?
Demigawd Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Yes buying counterfeit merchandise is illegal and knowingly buying counterfeit products is almost as bad as selling them. Just as buying stolen merchandise is illegal and by knowingly doing it you are contributing to the cycle. The only true way to stop counterfeiting is for people to stop buying it. If there no buyers there would be no sellers

acewarslave Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 good to see that at least ibanez relise there is a problem out there..
Bender 4 Life Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Where are you getting this information from ? Are you sure of this ? My cousin was arrested for "Conspiracy to posess" for attempting to buy counterfeit $20 bills. I would imagine the conspiracy charge could be pressed on almost any product, although I SERIOUSLY doubt that buying for a private collection, and NOT resale, would present any legal problems. Footnote: he got the charges dropped because he has a mental(drug induced) disability, that he gets a check for every month, he admitted to the whole thing, and played it as if he didn't realize buying $20 bills for $1 each was "odd".
acewarslave Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 guess in usa its easyer to forge money than here in australia cause we have plastic money not paper:-s
Bender 4 Life Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 Ace.......its as easy to counterfeit American money, as it is Chinese,(and even American) guitars. every time they change our currency, to make it more difficult, the counterfeiters BUY the technology to duplicate it.
acewarslave Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 now if only they couldnt buy the technology...
Ricochet Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 now if only they couldnt buy the technology... They fake it...
ef_in_fla Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 Exactly. Most counterfeit bills I've seen were just decent color copies. It's usually the feel of the paper that gives them away, not the image quality or color. If they ever get the paper right, look out....

Generally the fake bills lack the crispyness of the real ones(with Euros anyway). But last time I couldn't tell the fake one without the use of a UV-light. I heard American bills show slight 'magnetic pull' at the number-area. So our guitars have built-in dollar-detectors...
