BSAKing Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 http://www3.sympatico.ca/cill/98ac_1.jpg http://www3.sympatico.ca/cill/c437_1.jpg I have the opportunity to pick up an Epi Joe Pass for a not unreasonable price. (less than $400 with case). The price seems ok to me I guess (comments?), but I have a question about the color. To me it appears to be a reddish finish as opposed to brown/black, On the Epi website I see natural and sunburst, but much darker. I am assuming this is a slightly older model and maybe this color was only available then. Would anyone happen to know? Any comments about this type of guitar in general? The good, the bad, or the ugly, or in between? Thanks and regards (I hope posting the pic works)

I think I paid a about $40 more for mine with the reddish sunburst, on e-bay. I have a '95 with the reddish sunburst and I think it looks more attractive than the darker ones that are out there. It is all good and quite playable as it is, but there is some room for a wee bit of customization, if you want to do that later. Here's mine with mods: tp/ pickups / all wiring and t-o-m replaced With aftermarket Klusons: BTW, what model of BSA do you have?
BSAKing Posted October 6, 2008 Author Posted October 6, 2008 The old Beezer (belonging to the old Geezer lol) is a '67 Lightning...... I'm into older things... jukeboxes and the like as well as gitters. Simply as hobbies. Thanx for the info on the guitar. I agree on the comments about the color - of course, that is a personal preference.

Should have kept the bike, I guess. Years later got a XS650 Yam, but it was not the same.... This is similar as owning a Gibson, selling it and then getting an asian comparable version of it.. not quite the same.
BSAKing Posted October 6, 2008 Author Posted October 6, 2008 I know the feeling - I was born and raised on a 650 cc '67 Triumph - the TR6R model - similar to the Bonny except single carb - lot easier to stay in good tune. Reliable as all get out. Took that thing thru the Rockies and other places. I regret selling it when I moved to pursue a career. Hence the '67 BSA - could never justify the cost of another Triumph for what I do on it.... <sigh> Also had a 750 Commando in my time, but I did not consider it, nor the BSA in the same park as the Triumph. Oh - just to justify the thread diversion (lol) - I think I'll go ahead and buy the Joe Pass - I have Sheris (just bought an ebony one for a project guitar), an SST (which I quite like BTW), and the Gretsch 6122, plus a few Fenders, but nothing quite like the Pass model....
Nic Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Sold my SHerry and bought a Joe Pass. 2007 natural with HSC for $425. I think you have a good deal. I love this guitar. Are you guys talking about Triumph bikes or cars? Sounds like both with the mention of a TR6. I had a TR250, should have never sold it.
BSAKing Posted October 6, 2008 Author Posted October 6, 2008 We were chatting about bikes at the time, but I also have had a triumph TR6 convert .... and later an MGB.. and a Fiat Spyder..... amazing the things you have and let go - and later regret in a lifetime. Fortunately, I DID hang onto my one owner Fender 66 Super Reverb amp, a 61 Les Paul Jr. and a 1964 Stratocaster!!..... through blind luck - no great design on my part. I came close to letting them go several times over the years. On the basis of the input here I did decide to pick up the Joe Pass today in a sort of redish sunburst tone with a hardcase for $372.50 USD. Since it was ebay, add in about another $4,000 for shipping etc. lol. I'm quite looking forward to getting it and trying it out. I am not sure whether the older ones are as good as newer ones, but I do know that my Sheraton is a 1996 Samick and it is simply a great guitar. Here's the info on the Joe Pass. Guitar Info Your guitar was made at the Samick Plant, Korea March 1997 Production Number: 6825
Nic Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 I'd probably sell all my guitars if I could get my hands on a clean TR6. I also had a Fiat Spyder, don't miss that one too much. Good luck with the Joe Pass. I'm putting a Gibson 57 classic in mine next week.
