fendertubeguy Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Hi folks, I just joined because I just bought my first new Epiphone in years! I just got a black Epiphone Ultra II and really like the feel, weight, neck, and nanomag, but the pick-ups are just O.K. for what I play. I want to have professionally installed (because I am not very techie) Seymour Duncan P-rails (the pick-ups where you can get Humbucker, P-90 and Single coil sounds out of them). I thought they would be perfect for this guitar. Now the more that I read I see that this will be a much more difficult mod than normal. I was hoping to get help and input from the forum. I will need to have a three way switch added to be able to select between modes and then have them wired up to the circuit board. What do you all think? Will this be possible? Thanks for all your help in advance! Ed Fendertubeguy
Nic Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 I'm not a techie either but I think it would be pretty difficult getting the p-rails to mix with all the other crap in an Ultra II. I have Ultra II and put in the SD Jazz and JB pick-ups. I like them because they are very warm and smooth with just a touch of bite. I'm playing clean jazz tones and they are perfect.
fendertubeguy Posted October 6, 2008 Author Posted October 6, 2008 Hi Nic, Thanks for the input!!! Any other thoughts are appreciated! If the concensus is that the P-Rails wont work well what about a set of Seymour Duncan Phat Cats? I play in a 60's cover band and really need vintage sounding versatle tones! Again all your input is appreciated. Ed
Nic Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Any other opinions? My knowledge is limited, I already told you everything I know. The Ultra II is not real common so you may not get a whole bunch more help.
