mak' here's what you do (it's what I would do):

1. Search out a new/used Epiphone Elite/Elitist that suits you.

2. Buy it. (They've been discontinued so don't wait too long.)

3. Forget about your bad ES*** trip -- playing your Elitist will help you do that real soon!

Hit every BLUE NOTE baaaby..., I'm going to play on:-"

Hmmmm --- you wanted a full-size single cutaway hollow body guitar with a 24-point-something inch scale, a Bigsby and bright-sounding pickups that would be at home playing rockabilly and similar styles. Think, man --- the solution is obvious, but I could get banned for mentioning it out loud on this forum. Orange you getting any ideas yet? Oh, what a Wretsch-ed thing it is when a guitar doesn't turn out to be everything you hoped for. Especially when your budget is in the $600-$700 range, and not in the thousands.

Hint: What do these players have in common?

Duane Eddy, Chet Atkins, Malcolm Young, Brian Setzer, George Harrison, Cliff Gallup, Billy Zoom, Steven Stills, Neil Young.

If you're still stumped or need more specifics, try posting this thread on the other forum. Trust me, there are a few guitars out there that will make your hands and ears smile.

I'll say it....Dump the Epi and Buy a Gretsch! I bought one recently and I love it!

Haha. I had a '63 Country Gent for many years, finally sold it, eventually replaced it with a Sheraton II, which has been superseded by a (lowers voice) Gibson ES-335.

Coulda been playing one for 26 years, had I only known....

Why not both? Isn't a Gretsch a very different type of guitar?

A dangerous thought! Why, if we all did that, we'd own so many guitars....

Look, I'm a recovering guitaraholic. I went from 16 to the current 9 in 'way more than 12 painful steps. Finally I'm down to three electrics: the Epi, the 335, and the LP pictured in my avatar.

The Epi's on the block, the two resos are in different tunings, can't sell either of them, the basses are a fretted and a fretless, ditto, and the acoustics are my very first guitar and one that was custom made in 1986, so ditto also.

Man, I try and try, and then somebody like you comes along.

But it's under control. I won't buy another guitar unless it's a 335 with a Bigsby...

...(starts guiltily) "no, I wasn't on Craig's List to buy a guitar, I was just, you know, kind of looking, nothing serious. I could quit any time."

OK...I'll say it...."Gretsch, Gretsch, Gretsch!" Some nice Electromatic's out there in that price range! And, if you've a mind

to later, you can always upgrade the pickups on it, to TV Jones, etc. But, most that have them, seem to like the stock ones,

OK. Eastman, is another possibility...although a bit steeper in price. Jeff and Svet have some Eastman's...they can vouch

for their quality, and "Bang for the Buck!"

OR.....A nice used (but not abused) Sheraton, with some (added later) TV Jones Supertrons! Even a B-7 Bigsby added.

There's someone here, that's done that, or something similar...but, my CRS is working overtime, and I can't

remember who it is. Anyone else remember?!

Nah....it was actually and even swap for a Gibby fadded SG.....3161 with TV Jones pickup upgrade and Schaller chrome locking tuners ($300 worth of upgrades). I find some Gretches Kinda clumsy but not this one it's a Killer guitar!DSC_6902.jpgIt gets really 335ish tones but with more sparkle......I love it with a BF fender....the clean tones are just Great!

SInce it was flawed in the paint and I feel the Pickup and the bridge were messed up .. It qualified to be returned for a refund. At Guitar CEnter I did not have to deal wit Epiphone.. Probably a much better deal

In My opinion,,, GC has the best deals,, policies,, people etc! Great place to deal with!!!

Now if I just did not like it,,,, That would be a different story.. The Axe was an incredible piece of History!

But when you always see the flaws and just feel it is NOT what you paid for ... Yeah the wife & I been over it many times.. I did NOT expect the best guitar in the world... But at least the paint would have NO HOLES!!!

They asked if I wanted another one,, but I will just get the refund and I am going to a GC over the weekend.. Maybe...

This is a 5120 --- has humbuckers that sound brighter and crisper than Gibson/Epiphone 'buckers. There is also a series 5124-5129 in different finishes with DeArmond single coils and larger f-holes. All are very well made, in a similar price range to the ES-295. Check 'em out!
