Just Strum Posted October 11, 2008 Posted October 11, 2008 I noticed a red Casino on E-bay today that I thought looked nice, but apparently wasn't a good deal. The auction has expired with a no sale. 1) Is the red Casino overpriced? 2) when you pull up the link you will see a "Epiphone Casino John Lennon Mods Grover’s Epi" you will also notice one photo with four matching knobs and the rest have three matching and one black knob. Any thoughts or known reason for that? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180295546019&ssPageName=ADME:B:WNA:US:1123
JefferySmith Posted October 11, 2008 Posted October 11, 2008 I think it is $600 from him because of the price jump from Epiphone. One of the online (reputable) dealers was selling new red Casinos for an eternity, but I never got interested in them. Come to think of it, I only have one red Epiphone, the '61 SG, and I love it. But back to the question, I doubt that the red Casinos would go for more than the sunbursts. It should be easier to do cherry, and it covers ugly maple better.

The fake Lennon Casino has the mis-matched knobs and Grovers (and goof ring around the pup selector) because that's how Lennon's original Casino ended up. These goof balls on E Bay take a standard blond Korean or Chinese Casino, put on cheap-*** gold Asian Grovers, a fake goof ring and mis-matched knobs and suddenly it's a Lennon "mod" Casino...oh, and the "two screw truss rod cover" is also a joke...the angle of the epsilon is wrong and resembles the current standard truss rod covers. The vintage Kalamazoo Casinos, some Japanese versions and the Lennon reissues have the two screw truss rod covers with the epsilon (slashed "C" ) on the cover that's perpendicular while the later Asian imports have the epsilon tilted slightly to the right at the top but there's a sucker born every minute usually followed by an E Bay dealer...
