epilover9568 Posted October 11, 2008 Posted October 11, 2008 I have this one with Gibson P-100s, Byrdland Tailpiece, and flatwounds. It produces a great jazz sound. I have owned it for at least 3 years now and very happy with it. Excellent action and sound.
keoki Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 It's a great jazz box right out of the "box". My band mates love the sound as opposed to the other guitars I have used.
Parabar Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 When Gibson introduced the ES-175 in 1949, it had a single P-90 in the neck position. The bridge P-90 was added soon after, and that was the most popular jazz guitar throughout the 50's. The ES-295 is essentially the same guitar as the one that Kenny Burrell, Barney Kessel, and other legends used on so many classic jazz recordings of that era, just with a different finish.

I actually didn't do any of these mods... I bought it used just the way it is now (and in the photo)... The only advantage I may have is (maybe) slightly better tone with the Gibson pickups and the hum cancelling of the P-100s. But really no significant advantages IMHO to the stock guitar...

That was going to be my question: how do the Gibson P100's differ from the stock Epi P90's to your ear? I guess maybe the first owner changed the PUPs, so you may have no means of comparing. But, if you do, let me know. I have an ES 295, too, and am interested in you opinion. Red 333

Red 333[/quote'] I think the P-100s may have a little less crunch... I would keep your stock P-90s in... Not much improvement... Unless hum is an issue for you... Then put the P-100s in... I should add that I have played an ES-295 with the stock P-90s... So, I have a frame of reference...
