I'm getting a Goldtop next month but not the Slash one 'cause it's $1000 more expensive in Australia and I really can't see the justification nor value in that difference.

I just bought a Standard HCB earlier this year and love it. Then the Salsh Gold Top came out and caught my eye. What a beautiful guitar. I've als seen MadMike's too as I've searche the internet. IMO - that looks just as nice for 1/2 the cost. But you can't find one anymore, At least new... So I checked out ebay. There are a few with P90's in the $400 range. But what I found interesting is, there are new Slash Gold Tops being sold for less than what Guitar Center had them advertised for. GC's price was $999. At least one on ebay had a buy it now price of $899. I don't think you can make money selling something for less than what you paid=p~ So, are these blems? One said, he's not an autorized dealer. He just likes guitars. The pictures look real, so the whole fake thing isn't a question. So how do they get a brand new guitar and then sell it for less than the big stores?

I also was checking Ebay and one guy selling the Slash said he had 4 of them. I just cant get over the price they are getting for those guitars. Whats the real difference in them and a regular gold top. I think its only the shape of the neck and the pickups. And some decal of a hat. Anyway I found mine on Craigslist for $250.00 including the hard case. Mine was made in China, but it seams to be of pretty good quality and is almost brand new. Search long and hard and only use BUY IT NOW on Ebay.

Differences are:

Nickel Hardware, Long Neck Tenon, Neck Profile, Supposed Maple Top, Humbuckers instead of P-90's (Biggest difference), Seymour Duncans (As opposed to Epiphone standard pickups on a Plus/Plain Top), Green Key Tuners, The TRC, Binding, and LockTone (is this any different than the standard?) Stopbar Tailpiece. IMO, they're two completely different sounding guitars. Maybe not worth the extra cash, but definitely different.

My take on the Slash Goldtop is that it needs the P90's to retain its character. I've seen mini hb's and regular hb's on Goldtops and I prefer the sound of P90's over the hb's on such a guitar. Otherwise, you have a Goldtop that sounds like any other Les Paul. I guess it's preference, like anything else, but IMHO it's like putting humbuckers on a Tele; it just won't sound like a Tele afterwards.

That's just me. I want my Goldtop to sound a little different than my other two Les Pauls.

I just think of the Slash Goldtop as a Slash LP with goldfinished top...

I played a Slash Goldtop and a Slash burst at GC yesterday and can't say that I was impressed. It felt solid, but I didn't think it lived up to its $1k price tag.

I guess I just look for sonic differences in my collection as well as differences in finish and style. Ihave a Strat, Tele, Epi LP Flametop w/ HB's, Epi Goldtop w/ P90's, a Gibson Studio w/ HB'sin my collection. If I were to buy another Tele, it would be one with a HB at the bridge and neck.
