dbirchett Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 what is the cost of the vibramate? Probably would have taken fewer keystrokes to have googled vibramate. That's what I did and found that Elderly is advertising them for $59.95. Then you need to purchase a B5' date=' B50 or B500 to mount on it. Twang, the Bigsby site shows one mounted on what seems to be a Dot Studio: [img']http://www.bigsbyguitars.com/images/namm0807_booth4_220.jpg[/img] The article indicated that it was designed for flat topped guitars like SGs or Juniors but that they do work well on Arch tops as well. There may be a slight gap due to the curvature of the top.
TWANG Posted October 20, 2008 Author Posted October 20, 2008 http://www.zzguitarworks.com/servlet/the-62/bigsby-vibrato-guitar-tremolo/Detail that's an epi with a ZZ.. that is kind of massive, isn't it. and 250.00 using a B50 Bigsby. So that's 150.00 for the ZZ part of it. I haven't heard from Vibramate yet, so I don't know how much they are. But I have to say, I'd pay about forty bucks maybe fifty, otherwise I'd whammy on the strat. Vibramates isn't nickel plated, but it sits under the Bigsby. Also, they make theirs small so it doesn't cover the whole face of the guitar. ZZ just seems to want to go huge and deluxe but they priced themselves too high. I like it, but not as much as I think I'd like the vibramate if it fits nicely. TWANG
jcwillow777 Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 The Vibramates are $59.95. I got a respnse from my first email, but not my second. They sell them here. Just scroll down to them.
Stevie Nazarenie Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 i saw a pic somewhere and it was on a les paul. the device was up at an angle but they say thats ok! anyway the pic here says its made of "aircraft grade aluminium." http://www.gretschstore.com/cgi-bin/store/html/images/Vibramate-V5-640.gif

If I had a flat surface guitar it would be a no brainer, I'd get it.

TWANG Posted October 20, 2008 Author Posted October 20, 2008 I got a pic of one on a les paul deluxe from Vibramate today. And the amount that the V. sticks up is quite a bit less than that pic shows. I really don't think I'd care for one with that much sticking up. what the concensus among you about that? I think I'll mock one up and see what the angle would be on my own guitar. I actually think it would be better to just cut into the top and mount it flush. But.. the B70, I think that's the model, would look better and give me more confidence than that pic does. that is, I'd rather fill the holes than have such a great amount of clearance. You'd think the thing could be bent to lp top shape.. and even if not perfect on every guitar, still much better than that. Maybe I'll just carve something out of hardwood and give that a try. Right now, I'm thinking twice on the vibramate. Great for you flat top owners though! TWANG
Stevie Nazarenie Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 looks ok to me now. less than i remember. stick a wedge of wood under it!:)/
jcwillow777 Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 Yeah, I'm not really liking having that much sticking up. I personally think it looks goofy. I don't know about putting wood underneath it. It may give more support, but I think it would still look a little odd. By the way, according to Vibramate this will only work with a B5, not a B50. I am tending to lean more toward the B7/70 myself. I want to see if I can find some chrome caps for the hole, Actually, only one hole will show, and only a little bit. I really like the looks of the long tailpiece on the LP over the short B5. However, if this curved with the shape of the LP I would be much more in favor of it. If I had an SG, I would definitely put this on though.
TWANG Posted October 20, 2008 Author Posted October 20, 2008 Yep. I'm with you on this. I do like the short bigs look better.. but I'm not saying the long tail isn't fine. But I couldn't dig that vibramate look on a paul.. an sg you bet. Or an lp junior.. anything set neck flat top. TWANG
