Flatwounds on an EPI "1965" Casino

They used what they could get ("long shiny ones"), and mostly that seemed to be Pyramid strings (early days), and later...Paul used "Rotosound" bass strings, anyway. Might have been after "The Beatles," though? Not sure.

I've heard differing accounts as to if they were "round wound," or "flat wound." Maybe John used flats, and George used Rounds???

Some of the lead (Casino) work, sure doesn't sound like "Flat" wounds, to me. But, stranger things have happened.

George (apparently) used "flats" on his Ric 12-strings. And, since John played mosly rhythm, he may have use them,

as well? But, George's and Paul's leads (Taxman, etc.) sure sound more like "round wounds," to me, anyway...

I put D'Addario .11 flats on my Casino (just the standard Casino) and all who play it comment on the sound of the strings. A deep warmth. Really brings the guitar back a few decades.

Is this true? Damn, I just bought and put on a Rickenbacker set and they only offer roundwounds. Must say, not exactly happy with their strings.

The first Ric 12-string I ever had (1966) had factory "flatwounds." So, even Rickenbacker (back then)

recommended them. Pyramid makes a great set, that lasts a long time, too.

And yeah, 11's on a Casino would be a great guage! Sparkling highs, and tight-deep bass! Really

makes those P-90's growl, when pushed, too!
