epifan1281734102
Hi,I bought the Lennon Epi EJ160-E on ebay.Acoustically it's not bad but definitely nothing to get excited about.Came with electric guitar strings. Plugged it into my PA and the pickup is horrible. No top end,the tone control barely does anything. It's boomy and just plain lousy. Tried raising the string screws of the pup but to no avail. Is this normal for this model or is it a faulty pickup?? Thanks.
Red 333
That guitar should sound better amplified than acoustic, so something is wrong. Did you try lowering the PUP? If the pole pieces are too high, especially on the treble stings, the strength of the magnetic field could prevent the strings from vibrating as they should, which would deemphasize the highs. Try backing the screws up until they're flush with the mount, and then adjust them by ear from there. Also, I use phosphor bronze acoustic strings on both my Gibson J160e (w/P90) and Epiphone EJ160e (w/P100); both sound fine amplified with those strings (though somewhat different than with electric srings). The EJ will defnitely sound better acoustically that way. Red
epifan1281734102
Thanks RED333,yeah the pup is as low as it can go.It has to be a dud pickup then... Even the cheapest and nastiest guitars I've heard have some kind of tone. Thanks.
stone1281734000
What kind of strings do you have on it?
epifan1281734102
The strings that came with it appear to be electric guitar strings.
theDeuce
I've got a great Epi EJ160-E, but I'm not impressed with the p'up. In fact, I almost never plug it in.
