Anybody out there recognize this PI configuration? Don't look Stargeezer; there are 6SJ7's involved. It'll probably just make ya drool. =P~ A lot. Like it did to me! 8-[

I'm thinking it probably stays clean almost all the way up. On the other hand, you never know. Valvewizard sez a cathodyne PI with a gain stage pushing it can produce more gain than a long tail PI, so I gotta wonder.

Think I may have to, just because! One thing for sure, that 6u8/6AQ5 SE amp I just built sounds incredibly sweet like no amp I've heard before. Might be due to the PEC pots I swapped in the other day, but I'm suddenly getting tones outta my strat that I honestly didn't think it had in it! I'll probably never want to use common Alpha and CTS pots again, I can tell you that! WOW!

Weeelll, it sure ain't my lousy playing whats improved. #-o Might the el90, or it might be the 6U8, or it might even be the puppy chow (last week's Sozo's) all finally getting broken in), but I'm betting on the pots. One thing for sure, none of my other amps sound like this. So I'm just beginning to get a taste of what your buddies have been drooling over for a while with the octal 0ne, except this amp does a good power tube distortion as well. That el90 is also rather different sounding. Grungier sounding than the usual el84 and 6V6. A lot of things have evolved since last week, but this amp's still not ready for prime time. There's that annoying squealing pig noise when the tone pot's at max; and it still has the hum at max volume, but it's quiet as a mouse when turned down. That probably just means it's infesting my signal somewhere. Another job for the chopsticks. :-k
