I love Led Zeppelin but I don't know if Page is one of my heroes' date=' he was WAY sloppy live. I think that if a band (or guitarist) is bad live then I don't care if they have the best studio recording in the world.

Slash on the other hand, get in the studio, great live. My biggest hero.

But don't take this the wrong way I'm not tryin to diss you, like I said, I love Led Zeppelin.[/quote']

Yeah you can't disagree with that; page was sloppy at times but some of the stuff he did was pretty crazy. I really like his tone on the "BBC Sessions" cd.

I thought of a couple more great tones...

UFO - I know Michael Schenker didn't play a lester but what a great Gibson tone. And his predecessor on the first two albums, Mick Bolton, had a nice Les Paul tone - a heavy blues-rock Marshall grunt.

Bedlam - not so well known but same era as above (72-73). Known for their drummer Cozy Powell, but the guitar player David Ball (he was in Procul Harem for a bit too) was excellent. A great Les Paul/Marshall tone. I think an LP Deluxe mostly.

If I had to listen to one guitar player for the rest of my life, you'd have to pry my Warren Haynes Cds out of my sweaty hands. It's his technique and variable style that keep me listening. And, I'd fight you over my copy of ABB at Fillmore East.

Billy Gibbons is a pro at pick harmonics, a trademark of his style.
