pickpicker
hi, I'm new to tube amp and hopefully someone could help. When changing power tube in my valve special, is it require to bias? Under what circumstances, an amp need to bias? Thanks!
iansmitchell
The valve special is cathode biased. You don't have to change a thing.
cGil
Nope. You never need to bias the Valve Special for a tube swap. It's cathode biased, so as long as it's biased correctly for the plate voltage, that's it. Swap tubes to your heart's content. The problem of it eating power tubes comes from the fact that it's setup for 115vAC at the wall. Yet most of us have 122vAC or thereabouts. Simply put, the power tube's biased too hot. And the 7.5k output transformer is muddy and sucks tone! But all that stuff can be fixed. Gil...
