My bag of gold- Project Sheri

Recommended Posts

I've taken on the project of changing most of the hardware on my sheri. Maybe it's just GAS, but it's something to do anyways and hopefully

I'll be pleased with the results.

Parts list-

Black B700 bigsby

Black Grover Rotomatic tuners

Black/Chrome bridge (so far undecided)

Black sheri style pickguard

Black silver top knobs

Black strap locks

Misc black/silver hardware

As far as pickups, I'm thinking about just putting in the chrome ones that came out of my dot. I didn't think they were too bad.

Anyways, I thought I'd post some pics because I know how we all love guitar porn.

PS- Sorry about the low quality of these mugshot like photos.

Careful' date=' Charlie - there are some Dot Studio owners here#-o Once you've gone black, you'll never go back.[/quote']

Well, Dot Studio's and Sheraton's are a different "vibe," at least to me. I don't have anything "against"

black hardware, per se...just on a "natural" Sheraton...seems a bit strange/much...but, as I stated...it's his guitar,

he can (and should) do anything he wants, to it...if it makes him happy. No offense, intendedl, to anyone.

I guess, I'm too "conservative," that way? LOL!

Finally someone with some nice words lol jk. I know it won't be your average sheri' date=' but I think it will look good. hopefully.[/quote']

Nah...do whatever makes you happy! I'm very "conservative" when it comes to things like this...

And being so...it never entered my mind, to put black metallic parts on a Sheraton, especially a

"natural" one. A "Black" one...I could see more, for the "Goth" treatment, I guess? But,

it may turn out just fine?! Besides..if YOU like it, that's all that counts, anyway.

Will be looking forward to the photos of your completed "mod!"

wipe lemon oil on.. just a bit.. enough to slick out the board..

let sit five minutes.. then wipe thoroughly..

I do this about four times a year on my sheri.. for the last 15 years.

I use a paper towel.. rip a strip about 2" wide and sort of buff it off like polishing a shoe.

use an old toothbrush when you change strings to get next to the frets and dig out the crud that wants to stick in the crevice.

take an paintbrush.. about a 2".. and cut the handle off.. keep in in your case..

makes cleaning the headstock face easy.. cloth sticks to the string ends and tears..but the paintbrush wont.. and you can get under the

strings with the paintbrush.

one cloth for neck, one for body.

I had considered the same treatment for my Black Sheri, but abandoned the project when I discovered the issue with bridge sizing and no one on the planet being sure to order the correct one on the first try. Then I discovered "THE LIST" and all is better, or at least understandable.

I added new pu's and electrics. There was a great increase in tone control and with the next upgrade I hope an increase in sustain.

The point is that guitars are a wonderful diversion and with all the parts available often reflect the personality of the owner. If you like the black-out (anti-bling) look - go for it, just remember to post some completion pix.

I'm usually very conservative about mod projects on anything as well. I hate seeing cars with huge spoilers and dragons on the side of them for instance. I don't think what I'm doing will be drastic, maybe more plain looking if anything.

So what exactly is "THE LIST"? It sounds like something I'd very much so like to discover! I've been thinking about doing some different pickups possibly. Want to keep with humbuckers on this guitar though. Any suggestions?

Thanks, I think I should enjoy it when complete. If not, I'll take it all off and put the gold back on.

I certainly do plan on posting pics when complete. There's been stalls on parts and such though, so it might take a while to get done (especially when I'm trying to spend most of my money on other people now, since it's almost xmas and all).

  • 4 weeks later...

I'm very happy with it. At first I wasn't too sure, but now with the pick guard and knobs on it I'm thinking it looks really cool. I think the black bigsby I'm going to put on it will set it off... Plus it looks kinda funny with the gold pickups still in it, so maybe I'll switch those out tonight.

Again, not the "conservative" style, but IMO it's starting to look less like something my grandma would proudly hang next to her china collection.
