Olli Walli Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 I am having trouble identifying an epiphone limited edition standard les paul that I purchased in 1997. I will post pictures of it tonight when I get home. Below is a description of it. It is a trans black flame top with all black hardware. It came with matching pearloid pickguard, truss rod cover, and the circle that goes around the pickup selector switch. It has limited edition stamped on the back of the head. The serial number comes back as made in Korea in June of 1996. Pretty much, it is a Joe Perry look alike. It looks nearly identical to the Gibson Joe Perry that came out in 1997. I am having an extremely hard time finding another Epiphone of the same color and have not found another that had all black hardware and the matching pearloid items. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I'll be happy to provide the serial number if this will help. Has anyone else seen an Epiphone that matchs this description?? I purchased it new and have not changed any items on the guitar. Thanks in advance
generation zero Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 I used to have an Epi LP Studio (with trapezoid inlays, no less!) that pretty much matched that description, but it was a gift given to me by a friend that said he bought it overseas somewhere while he was in the navy. Sorry, I know that doesn't help much... LOL.
Olli Walli Posted December 30, 2008 Author Posted December 30, 2008 Sorry for the delay. Here are a few pics of my guitar. Thanks for your help.
Sava Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 Chzeslokovakia maybe, Bohemia factory? Put serial number on http://www.guitardaterproject.org/epiphone.aspx. My les Paul Standard Plus is Bohemia product, year 1990.
Olli Walli Posted December 30, 2008 Author Posted December 30, 2008 Made in Korea in June of 1996. Doesn't say what factor as the serial number starts with an L
stan 58 Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 My 97 "Iguana burst" Les Paul was built at the unknown "L" factory in Korea, great guitar, great build. Stan.
Whitmore Willy Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 Olli, Pics look more like Epiphone's trans root beer color than trans black. Other than that I think you pretty well called it. "96" L.P. standard plus, limited run. The "L" in the serial number does signify Korea. There is no specific factory listing for the L. (production may have run from more than one factory) Looks like you've kept it in good shape......Nice looking guitar.
Olli Walli Posted December 30, 2008 Author Posted December 30, 2008 Did Epiphone make a trans root beer? I can't find any information on it.
Suicidehummer Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 Don't think so. I think its' just the pics. In reality, it looks much darker, right?
Olli Walli Posted December 30, 2008 Author Posted December 30, 2008 Yeah, it's darker in person. No trace of black though, atleast not like standard trans black guitars. I was thinking maybe just a thinner coat of trans black on it????
Olli Walli Posted December 30, 2008 Author Posted December 30, 2008 This picture is a little more accurate of the color with no flash:
Suicidehummer Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 Yeah, most of the Trans Black guitars had the black very lightly applied. I'm 99% sure it's Trans black.
