GISON OR EPI

Recommended Posts

I hope someone can help! I bought a Gibson Explorer some time ago and am now told its an epi? How did they come to that conclusion? Well they tell me that the cover over the trussrod has 3 screws (which it does) but Gibson's only have 2? Although it is stamped on the back 'made in USA'.

Although I've never seen one, it wouldn't be out of the question to wonder if this is a fake Gibson.

I double-checked, and Gibson Explorers do have two-screw truss-rod covers. I wasn't sure, because Flying V headstocks have a unique truss rod cover, and it is three screws.

Pictures?

if it doesn't say epiphone on it, it's not epiphone.

it could be a fake gibson, but it's not an epiphone.

remove the pickup rings and take a look inside the pickup cavities once. if they're painted black, it's fake. If not, I'm not sure.

Sounds suspicious. Who told you it was an Epiphone? Pictures and a few more details will help.

I was just thinking, if painting the pickup cavities black is such a giveaway as to a Gibsons authenticity, why do they still do it? I heard that Epiphone do this on their guitars, but not Gibson.
