moomn Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 I have a LP Standard and I love it, but sometimes i wish the neck might be a little bit slimmer. Visiting the Epiphone website, i couldn't find a lot of information about neck-profiles and thickness. There's only some information about the material, and that the Slash Edition has a 12''-profile. What does this mean, and what is long tenon? My main Question is, whether Epiphone does build LPs with different (thin) necks? Thanks, happy christmas to everybody moomn
TWANG Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 12" is the fretboard radius. the amount of curve in the board. If you drew a circle with a ruler at 12".. that would match the curve of the board. long tenon refers to the neck at the lower/body side has more strength. I suppose some necks vary a bit, from model to model, but I'm not sure of the difference or which ones are. I know my sheraton is way flatter and thinner than my epi lp. you can remove the finish, and even a bit of the wood. making it less round. more of a flat C than a round C... then apply sealer and clearcoat. Pretty easy to do that if you dont mind your finish on the back of the neck matching in the middle portion where you play. Or you could get someone to repaint it. They are thick enough to do that safely and it can make a lot of difference. TWANG
