Well, I've just noticed this now, I got my Standard Plus about a month ago, and I rarely if ever use the middle position. Today I was using it and when I turn down the Neck Volume knob all the way, there's no sound? Shouldn't the bridge position still affect the middle. As of now, I hear no difference between the middle position and neck...

No they're wired that way. You have to have the volume up at least a little for the signal to pass.

You can rewire them for independant control.

Yeah, takes some gettin' used to on first exposure...heh..... I freaked out when I first got my LP and it did that (my old, old electric was wired "the other way," I guess, so the standard LP wiring freaked me out. Am used to it, now (although contemplating re-wiring in the future , if and when I get the gumption to do new pots, caps, pups, and all .....may be soon, maybe not until something fails me.... Happy holidays, all y'all !!!

My Iommi G400 is wired that way also.

That was my 1st guitar, and it completely freaked me out when it didn't work. Thought it was broken.

If you study the wiring diagram link, you'll see that either volume pot can ground the output of both pickups when turned down all the way, killing the signal. If you go to www.seymourduncan.com and click support/wiring diagrams, you can find various ways to wire the pickups. There are series-parallel, push-pull, parallel, and others.
