Erskine1281734125 Posted December 25, 2008 Posted December 25, 2008 I have a 4 month old Casino and noticed today (when practicing with a new amp) that the pickup switch only selects one pickup in the centre position. When I first got the Casino I thought that the switch was a bit loose but put it down to a flimsy switch. Is this a common fault? I think that the down position selects the bridge pickup but can someone confirm this?
TWANG Posted December 25, 2008 Posted December 25, 2008 yeah usually down is treble and up is rhythm. this problem is fairly common with epi switches. solutions vary. some insist on going to a better quality switch. switchcraft is the usual choice, though I have used others that are every bit as good. with my epi I just pulled the switch out. .and pinched the two contact strips together with a needle nose pliers.. they sometimes just don't have enough tension for them to make good connection. they're loose. you don't need muscle to do this.. when I do it, I leave the switch connected, no desoldering and resoldering, and the guitar plugged in.. pinch them gently, the flip the switch, repeat if needed until it works. sometimes the contact points are dirty, too. a little dust is all it takes. Or, even new smooth metal. so what I do is drag a piece of emery paper about a two inches long or less. between the contact points on each side of the switch. with those points engaged. then I flip the paper over and do each one again.. this roughs out the contact points, two one each side, inside and outside.. one in the middle and it's metal strip for both sides.. that lets the juice flow better. others use a contact cleaner you can spray in there. Yours to me is a perfect example of not enough tension, or dirty contact points. so I'd check the tension, tighten it a bit.. then rough out those contact points. with mine, it's been months and the thing works perfectly, saving me having to buy a new switch. tWANG
