Gibson Les Paul or Epi Les Paul?

You know for one wouldn't mind at all having one of those. They are way cheaper than epiphones and just to let you all know' date=' even epi's are considered high-end guitars in this part of the world. I have never seen a real live Gibby before, and being able to afford an epi is already quite amazing. As far as everyone around here is concerned a Gibby is the stuff of legends, you'll never see a Gibby hanging on walls in guitar shops. [/quote']

Yo do you mean, A real gibby. Are their a lot of fake usa gibby's around by you.

Yeah' date=' Gibson is really milking this 'aged' trend, aren't they?

btw cuda, did you ever buy that 59 Jr. or Special? Can't remember which one, exactly.[/quote']

No, the old lady/ my ball and chain got tightened up . She caught me when I was drunk and at my weak point and told me the 3 new gibson's I just got a couple a month's ago and the 43 or so total guitars I have are enough. Man I tell-ya, I must trade her *** in on a younger dumber slim-er newer model some time soon.

Yes I do mean a real Gibson. Even full professional musicians here hardly use Gibsons. Fake guitars are everywhere, and frankly that is what the average person here can afford to play. A piece of wood with 6 strings is as good as any guitar as far as anyone can be concerned. You guys say a Zakk sig is 4000 USD? Well that would make it RM14000 around here. And the average Malaysian earns about RM2000-3000 I think. Kids go bug-eyed when they see a MM or MIJ strat. There's no point displaying Gibsons in shops, there's no market for it. And frankly not many can tell the difference between a fake and a real Gibby.

I think that Gibson is missing the boat by making Epiphone use that Epi headstock. I think that if they had the Gibson headstock that their sales would skyrocket.

I agree. I would love the Epi with the open book headstock. Certainly more authentic. The Maestro les paul copies have them...granted a cheaper guitar to build than an Epi but still....

At least when I buy my Gibsons I'm helping an American family make a house payment.

If you buy an Epi, you are putting money into the American economy as well. Most of the markup is AFTER the guitar arrives in the USA. Gibson craftsmen are making big bucks where the Indonesian people are making peanuts. So, yes, there is more impact for the little guy if you buy a Gibson. But, every dollar that is spent by an American company in the US helps the US economy. As someone said, a guitar made overseas costs about $45 and sells for $400 or $500. The profits are made when the guitar is sold. A large percentage of the profit is made by the selling dealer.

I would love to see epis with Gibson headstock...

Epiphone did make several LP's with Gibson "style" not exact open book headstock. The Epi in the picture is a late 80's made at the Samick plant in Korea. Note that at the nut' date=' the Epi is wider than the R9 and the R9 is wider at the logo and the tuning shafts are a bit smaller on the Epi but I have no problem keeping it in tune. My avatar is Epi on left and R9 on the right. FYI, the Epi has a 60's neck and plays and sounds great.............J

Hello Malaysia... Denmark is calling...

Bangkok - where I'm coming with my wife from time to time - is not that far away from you and there you can get reasonable priced Gibson of all sorts.

JimeJ I didnt know they made those... headstock looks kind of weird... but better than "normal" epis...

I've seen very few like it. Another thing, (that I posted before in the long tenon/short tenon thread), is that this one does have a long tenon that extends into the neck pup cavity. Its a "freak" guitar with a very wide range of tone and is wired so that if the selector switch is in the middle, one pup can be at zero and it doesn't cancel out the other, which allows me to use both tone knobs. At high volume its very responsive to the tone knobs. Can't remember where I got it, how long I've had it or what I paid for it................J

Damn, GAS is still calling really hard today and you guys are reminding me of this one I got to have. You know I do not have an epipy in my line up. I think If I give my old lady the high and hard one really good, then get her drunk and buy her a pair of shoes, she will pass out early and I can find my credit cards and buy me an epipy man.

Then it will be off to a real party, like a hotel room and this new red head hooker.acefreely79999.jpg
