Gordy01 Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 Went out and bought some knobs at my local shop. Good price, about 12 bucks for a set of 4. Wrong %^&*#@ spline!! Gotta get some with coarse spline like so many guys here have said.
snookelputz Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 Obviously, you will need to purchase a new guitar to put them on. It is the only solution which makes sense.
TWANG Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 what type knobs.. I've got some metric and usa spline knobs in stock. about half that price from me. like any of these http://www.allparts.com/store/knobs-plastic-knobs,Category.asp tWANG
ef_in_fla Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 It's nothing a drill bit and some epoxy won't fix......

TWANG Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 well.. epoxy is a little over the top.. model airplane glue will work on plastic and metal, and it's isn't then near impossible to get them off as it would be with epoxy. the splines can be smoothed with a drill bit.. I'd do it by hand.. be sure not to punch through that way.. and then some duco cement and let it dry for an hour. The thing is, epoxy would bond permanently. that's what it's for. the duco cement tends to break after time.. after all you turn those knobs a lot.. and if you don't get them just right, they turn at a funny angle and you have to redo. so, it's possible to get a good fix, that will last a long time.. but it's harder with a metal shaft pot than plastic shaft pots. and don't go with epoxy. sooner or later you're going to want to take those knobs off, and you'll play hell doing that with an epoxy. generation zero Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 Alternatively, you could go ahead and replace the pots with CTS 500k pots. Those should be USA standard, and the coarse spline Gibson knobs fit them perfectly. They're only a few bucks each, and will make a noticable difference in tone.
Bender 4 Life Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 I ran into the same problem once, if they're too loose, put a piece if paper shim over the post, tap the knob on over that. If theyre too tight, you have 4 pieces of fine slingshot ammo !!

TWANG Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 I think these both have white numbers.. http://www.allparts.com/store/knobs-plastic-knobs-pk-0130-022,Product.asp http://www.allparts.com/store/knobs-plastic-knobs-pk-0140-022,Product.asp which shape. TWANG

TWANG[/quote'] Sounds like a lot of work for 12 bucks worth of knobs. I can return them and get the right ones.
