Epiphone LP Standard Plus / Upgrades?

Hello!

Thanks to all who helped me with the real or fake question. I now have decided to order an LP Standard Plus (Cherry Sunburst) from www.musicstore.de (a relieble dealer). I hope, that I´ve made a good choice?

I think it will be more than enough for me, as I´m quite at the beginning in electric guitars. But here are some questions for the future, when I will hopefully be a little more advanced.

1. Which upgrades make sense for this guitar (which humbuckers,...)?

2. Do you know good Online-Shops (Europe prefered) where you can make a good deal?

3. Are there tutorials... how to manage this upgrades myself, or do I have to get it done by a shop?

Thanks a lot again! Matt.

1. I'd stick with the major brands. Seymour Duncan, Gibson. Look up their websites, study the specs and read the reviews.

2. Of the 3 big online dealers in Germany, Thomann generally is a bit cheaper and also has the widest choice.

3. Plenty of tutorials. Depending on you skill you can do it yourself.

Matt,

Congrats, I have been very happy with mine.

Can't help with stores, as I am not familiar with stores across the pond.

My upgrades:

1. A good set up (a must on mine) factory set up was fair at best.

2. New bridge (just didn't like the stock one) I went with a Gotoh but, I understand Alparts and others also make good replacements.

3. Changed out the pots and caps. I used a matched set of CTS pots and Sprague caps. Brightened things up

quite a bit. I am told most replacement pots are an improvement.

4. Changed the nut for a Tusq brand but I'm not sure it was really an essential upgrade.

5. I added a Tp6 tailpiece. (only because I had one laying around.....otherwise I never would have bothered)

6. Changed the pickguard, rings and knobs. (Just wanted to see how they looked in black) If I had the Cherry Sunburst I would have left them stock colors.

In my case, I left the stock pickups in. Now that I know my particular guitar better (I've had it about 9 months) that

might change although my stock ones just don't sound that bad. (matter of taste I guess)

Most important upgrade (if you can call it an upgrade)....Get a good case...the guitar deserves it.

Matt,

I ran across a couple YouTube Videos you might be interested in. The first is a demo of a Roland 20X Amp where the guy is using a heavily modified LP Standard Plus. The second is a video where he discusses the changes he made to his LP. The first video (20X Demo) will give you a good idea of the type of sound he is getting from the guitar – this may or may not be something you like.

20x review

upgrades
