TehLesPaulZorz Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Ok, I got a Sh-1 '59 for the neck of my Plus, and it came with no cover. Anyway, is it possible to take the cover off the original epiphone pup and put it on the SD? If it is, how would I go about this?
TWANG Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 epis are metric. so there's some difference in size. However, usually it's only a real bother with the covers.. not the rings. the rings will be close enough.. but the covers will more than likely be spaced differently, and getting the holes lined up impossible. If you want to try, it's just soldered at the bottom.. you have to hold it at an angle so when you heat the solder up it doesn't drip into the pickup coils and wreck it. Same in reverse. Kind of hard, really, but I've done it a few times learning the covers wont match. *In fact, I bought a set of gibson covers and they wouldn't even fit gibsons.. go figure* But you can get covers that will fit. TehLesPaulZorz Posted January 8, 2009 Author Posted January 8, 2009 Haha, The Gibson covers don't even fit the Gibsons...anyway thanks TWANG
generation zero Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 You'll also probably want to pot it in wax, or you might have microphonic problems. Honestly, you'd have less hassle by just ordering a '59 with a cover on it from the start. What guitar are you putting it in? It might look cool to just leave it uncovered... remember that the cover is going to darken the tone of the pickup a bit, too. Tonally, you might like it better without a cover, as well. Just food for thought.
