Bigsby?

Final Loan

Hello there, I hope somebody can help me...

I've got a Lucille, which I love, but I've decided that what it really needs is a bigsby tailpiece. My problem is I don't know which model bigsby to get. There seems to be loads and there doesn't seem to be a lot of difference between them.

Anybody got any idea on which type would best suit an Epi Lucille? Please don't just say a gold one - I'm already well ahead of you on that!

Cheers!

I like the looks of the long tailpiece on the B7, B70 or the B700. I recommend the B70. It is less expensive than the B7 cause it isn't made in the USA. But if you gotta have made in the USA, then B7 It would look sweet on you Lucille. I put B70s on my Dot and Sherry and I love 'em.

The B5 is another option. With the B5 there is the option of using a Vibramate. It bolts to the bushins in you stop tailpiece so you don't need to drill any hole, but it will only work with a B5.

I've said this before, but if you use the B-70, pick up one of the 1" tall replacement springs instead of the stiff, cheap 7/8" ones they come with. Makes a world of difference.

I'm gonna have to get one and try it out next time I change strings.

I use the b70 on my epi lp. And the spring hasn't bothered me a bit.

But it seems to be an inch long anyway. I'll check next time I change strings. *soon*

and I'm going to order the longer spring so I can compare.

Not doubting you, Stig, just saying mine works pretty well.

I'll be happy to find out you're right!

By the way, I just sold a black b700 and I removed all my sheri stuff to fit it, and the new bridge, for the customer.

And the b700 is very nice.. and not only that, much much better fit, lined up better, sat better on the top.. than putting one on

an lp.

I'm sure your BB will be as handy!

And, I used a piece of kite string. you just tie it to a tuner run it to the bigs low e.. across to the high e and back to another tuner..

that way you've got your string spacing shown clearly from side to side and you can even 'tune' up the kit string a bit for tension.

Way handier than messing with strings.

Then, you can leave that on and do a few strings before taking it off.

I did it with the bigs masked on.... masking tape under it at first so you don't scratch..

then when it was right, I took off the tape and put in the center hole screw only..

that way you still have some tilt room to get it perfect and the kite string holds it fine and lets you know the string spacing.

I think the B7 or B70 or B700 would all do you quite well.

I have no problem with loss of sustain, and mine comes back into tune very much better than I ever expected.

Good luck. and post pics!

Consider the black.. look sharp on the BB!

Twang,..did you put locking tuners in to prevent tuning issues with your Bigsby? I've heard its a good way to go....

I've had a 68 Guild Starfire with a Bigsby for about 25 years, so when I got the Casino with the B-70, I noticed the difference right away. It seemed like pressing down on the arm just bent the arm instead of the spring!

I had an Allparts 1" spring lying around for almost 20 years (because I'm a guitar parts pack rat) and put it in there. It was like an entirely new unit. Works great now, and it's really lively. Longer travel, too.

I added a roller bridge, but left the tuners alone, by the way.

ESM Yes I used grover locking tuners on it. Stayed with bone nut, and used Schaller Roller bridge.

On the new sheris, you don't even have to swap the bushings for the Schaller.

But I did on the lp.

Stig.. way good info.. thanks!
