JohnMcClane5000 Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 Hello, As some of you may know I quite fancy the John Lennon Ej-160e, but since there's just no way of getting a korean made one I now desire a Limited Edition J-45. Questions: 1. When were these guitars manufactured? I mean, was it on the Epiphone Website? (Pitty that there isn't a catalog anymore) 2. It's a limited edition/Custom Shop made guitar, so it's Korean, right? 3. How much does one pay for a new one of these? 4. Are they still available? As far as I can say, this guitar would suit me very well, because I like the "Inplugged"-Idea with guitars (like my Epi Casino unplugged). I really wish Epiphone would make more fuss about these things, because it's a really beautiful guitar and I never really liked the Idea of having a big "John Lennon" signature on my guitar (if it's hidden somewhere in the back or so, it's okay, but not on top of it)... What do you think? Nick
Spyders Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 Hi John, There are two Epiphone J 45s on Ebay right now. One of them says it was made in Indonesia. That probably means it was made by Samick and if so, it is probably an excellent guitar. You ought to check those two out. Also, Sorry you lost the election. I voted for you! Spyders
JohnMcClane5000 Posted January 11, 2009 Author Posted January 11, 2009 Two? I only see one... the red one... But I'm really more into the black one with the white pickguard and the Kluson-Style tuners... Damn, it's a real pitty the news about this wonderful guitar just passed me by...
Spyders Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 John, Go to ebay, type in Epiphone AJ 45 and it will come up. It is a beautiful black model and it is in what appears to be a Road Runner ABS case. He says he'll throw in the case for $10. Also the current bid for the J 45 is only $41. I might just bid on this one myself! It looks like an awesome guitar. I also noticed a sunburst model on the UK Ebay. Spyders
LHC- Jr. Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 I'm not certain that it's necessary to avoid all Epiphones made in China. I have one from there, and to be quite honest, it is better made than some very expensive American made Gibsons I've had the misfortune to come across. Ordering a guitar on the Internet is always a risky business, no matter what the brand or production country. Do you have Thomann in your country? They offer a 30 day money back guaranty and a three year warranty. I've found their customer service to be fantastic. If you did happen to get a lemon from them, I'm sure they would send you a replacement without a hassle.
JohnMcClane5000 Posted January 11, 2009 Author Posted January 11, 2009 Wow, that's exactly the one I was looking for!!! But unfortunately I don't live in America... And: Yes, I have Thomann, cause I live in Switzerland! I'll shall have a look Thanks for your friendly replies! Nick/John

What do you think? Nick I have the limited edition AJ-45. Red with the white pick guard. They are manufactured in Indonesia by Samick. I was lucky to snag one for around $130 US about a year ago when Musicians Friend was blowing them out. They are no longer manufactured so you'll have to buy NOS or used. I assume they stopped making them a little over a year ago. These are really nicely made, great sounding guitars. The next closest model would be the AJ200SR(also Samick Indonesia and discontinued although they still make the AJ200S, I believe) which is very similar in dimensions, only the bouts are slightly more rounded.
