floydpink7 Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 http://www.epiphone.com/news.asp?NewsID=1412 What do you think of the new Thunderbird Pro? Have any first impressions?
RobinTheHood Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Those are very nice. It's nice to see a 5-string in the lineup. I've heard that Epi made 5-string Thunderbirds in the past, but I've never found any evidence of one on the internet. I also like the battery cavity. The old 2-screw method was an atrocity, and the people installing them could never seem to get the screw holes right. I wonder how the EQ is set up? If its anything like my actives, its 2vol/ 1 tone/1 blend.
gregoire1 Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 It looks great but, how much is it(street value), when will I see it in stores?
Manimal Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 MONSTER bass!!! I love these!!! I think that the natural or trans black is up my alley. Of course, we don't know a price range yet. Under $600 and its a go! Over $600 and Epiphone might be getting into a new market a bit too quick I think.
Bluesbrekr1281734000 Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 Looks like nice construction/materials, but I don't care for the black hardware.

Dont care too much for the vintage sunburst. I like the regular Thunderbird bursts much better. Who knows about price. We'll have to see. I can imagine the 5-string being a bit pricier than rest though.

I don't know when they'll come out, but I'm pretty sure they'll be a lot more expensive than the regular Thunderbird. I guess they made this guitar for those who like the Thunderbird but don't want to buy the Gibson and still have a good quality bass.
Tyler Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 I fell in love with it immediately! I personally like the vintage sunburst, but have to admit that i like it better on the IV.
floydpink7 Posted January 23, 2009 Author Posted January 23, 2009 http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/Bass/Epiphone/Thunderbird-Pro-IV.aspx Here we go, the link to its price is above. It's $832. A little expensive... but it is "pro" after all.
TWANG Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 that's about 600.00 street then huh? I really like the look of this bass. I don't have a problem with any of it! Haven't found many pics of the five string yet.. leaning toward the sunburst. but sheesh.. the black and natural look darn sharp, too. wonder how long it will be until someone around me gets one in.. tWANG
floydpink7 Posted January 31, 2009 Author Posted January 31, 2009 Here's a picture of a natural finish Thunderbird Pro in action at the 2009 Epiphone NAMM Show Party. Looks good! Here's the link: http://www.epiphone.com/news.asp?NewsID=1419
BenjiFTW Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 OK! is this bass out!? ive seen it online on like 3 stores! Im getting a new bass for college and i was thinking of getting a goth but then i fell in love with the PRO help me out? Cheers Benji x
brianh Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 There was a discussion about this model a few ago: http://forums.epiphone.com/Default.aspx?g=posts&t=7372 I don't think anyone here knows anymore about it than you do, but it sure does look nice. I'd buy one...
deflepfan Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 picked it up today for $479 with the case HNGD to you! It does look great! Reviews would be welcomed as I'm still looking at basses for my son. Sheila
Bakz Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 Okay, I'm sold. I've been meaning to pickup the 5 string bass guitar for a long time. Used to play, but never owned a bass of my own. I've been playing guitar for well over 50+ years, and I build my own amps. I own two Chinese Epiphones, so I know the quality is there, and is there in spades. Frankly, my Epis are becoming my go to instruments above my Gibsons and Fenders. If someone could answer these questions, I'd appreciate What size strings are recommended for the Pro 5? What do you recommend for strings? Black, Natural or Burst? I'm not a flat picker, and will probably play a four finger style (well once I develop it). Thanks

[/quote'] For 5 string I like .40, .60, .80, 1.00, 1.28 Rotosounds (they don't make a set like this^, I think their standard 5 string set is .45,.65,.80,1.00,1.25. I don't have a 5 string but do have a "BEAD Bass" so I always get my strings individually.) I like the look of the Natural myself, but that's up to you which one you like...
