twiggy Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 Hey lads, been browsing our beloved ebay and came across this guitar: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Epiphone-John-Lennon-EJ-160E-Acoustic-Electric-Guitar_W0QQitemZ170294343393QQcmdZViewItemQQptZGuitar?hash=item170294343393&_trksid=p3286.m63.l1177 seller states finish flaws, but shoot me, that's an ugliest sunburst I've ever seen! what do ya all think?
twiggy Posted January 17, 2009 Author Posted January 17, 2009 oh I didn't even look at this pretty guitar isn't it?
Sjael Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 Haha, I actually swore out loud when I saw that photo. That is all kinds of wrong.
stone1281734000 Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 I can see why it was stamped "second" because of the botched burst finish on the top. Way too much black and the burst doesn't nearly begin to extend out far enough. Actually it shoud've been stamped "fifth" or "sixth". Better yet, it should've never left the factory.
TommyK Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 I've seen these minimalist burst (or maximalist... depending on how you look at it.) Really "burst" is a mis-nomer. They don't apply a 'burst', they apply a shading. Although.. I think that is close to what Mertin guit tars call it. Anyways. The burst (lighter area) looks a bit off'n center. Probably would have been better if the burster had said, "Aw, screw it." Then just turned it into a blackface. In case you didn't already know it, bursting is all hand work and takes years to perfect. But, heck MusiciansFriend is asking near $500 for an unblemished copy. Approx $200.00 savings, out the door... pays for a lot of off centeredness. Besides, there's aerosol Krylon in town.
pohatu771 Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 dat looks fake mate.look at d pick gard The pickguard may not be original, but it's at least based on the guard John's Gibson ended up with - and I've seen it in person. It's also the shape that Gibson has put on their Peace model. I will say, the back looks quite nice. I'd prefer less black, but the wood underneath has a nice stripe to it.
