BigT76 Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 First off... Hello. I have a blond Sheri II and ever since I've owned it (3 years) the neck pickup has always been quiet. Just wondering if its a feature of the model orrrrr a problem with my sheri. Cheers
TWANG Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 It ought not to be. Have you adjusted it's height? Set the pole pieces? If you have and it has less volume. there's likely a problem. being closer to the center of the string.. maximum vibrational position.. neck pups are typically set deeper into the ring to balance them against the bridge pickup. some bridge pickups even have a hotter output for the same reason. even with a hotter output bridge pickup, your neck pickup should be able to overpower it by raising it. I like to set the neck pup first.. get a good volume, clean tone.. you can overdrive a pickup by getting it too close to the strings.. and you can pull the strings out of tune if the magnets are too close.. then set the neck pup. I do it by my ears, but www.stewmac.com used to have setup instructions. I'd start with that. TWANG
Bender 4 Life Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 My Sherri's neck p'up doesn't have the "twanggg, or tone" of the bridge p'up it sounds much ......sweeter(?) as in, better for jazz, or more acoustic sounds, but it's definitely not quieter than the bridge. every dbl humbucker guitar I own is pretty much the same story.......sweet, melodic tones, go with the rythym p'up.........biting leads, solos, or grinding, crunched up rythyms, drop it down to treble.
