STEELEY Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 hi there, a mate of mine is doing some work on his guitar, and is planning to install a third pickup in the middle position. he plans to use a bridge pickup at the bridge, a bridge pickup at the middle and a neck pickup at the neck. is this going to work, or am i gonna be able to laugh at him? cheers
brad1 Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Of course it will work. Whether it sounds good or not is another matter. Depends on the type of pups he's using.
Steven Lister Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Go ahead, you can laugh at him..., ...for wasting money on a 3rd pup and the great effort to rout a cavity when all he really needs is a couple quid for a 5 way rotary switch, little bit of wire, and some know-how to put together about 20 different tonal varieties from his two existing pups. Hit every BLUE NOTE baaaby..., I'm going to play on:-"
MarxBros Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 I've always found a middle humbucker to get in the way of my pick and to offer little in the way of additional sonic choices.
casinogino Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 doesn't sound stupid to me.........the nashville tele has three:-"
TWANG Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 I was just talking to a guy with an epi Zephyr and he was really happy with three pups on his guitar. strats have three. I often install a middle pup on teles for people. A bridge pickup in the middle will work fine. In fact, since the string signal is stronger there than at the bridge, and since bridge pickups are usually hotter than neck pickups.. and since you want to have the middle pickup a bit lower so it's less in your pick way.. it's a good choice. It will work, and it will sound good, and it will offer more sound options. sounds like a plan to me. TWANG
