Whitmore Willy Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Stan, I for one have had a great time. I have played music for more years than I sometimes care to remember. Untill I joined this forum, I never thought much about working on my own guitars. This forum was a major contribution to changing that. Through the smooth and trouble spots there has always been something to learn. The members have been generous with their information. Even when nothing is going on, there is always something interesting to read.
28v6r Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Y'know Stan, I'm not really sure, there have been good and bad points, good and bad days, which I find rather unusual, Its a difficult one to really talk about openly at the risk of being flamed or banned however... The forum has been basically a cool area to hang around with, I've learned a lot and made a lot of good friends along the way, these people know who they are and know what worth they are contributing.then there are a second grade of people wanting to learn, wishing help, and just wanting advice and friends (Me Included!) Then there are the "Knobish" element, those that are above their station, they flame others, they don't respond to PM's even although THEY ask you for advice on your equipment, they know all there is to know all about guitars but in essence really know nothing and in general clutter up the forum. In that respect I kinda miss the "Dictatorial" days of the forum whereby a thread was deleted or a person banned, they gave us THE CUSTOMER the chance to run our own forum in a mature manner and to be honest we repay them with flaming, spam, ignorance and attitude, for what?? I miss the days of guitar talk, guitar speak, technical issues and some friendly banter, these days its "Hand bags at Dawn" there should be an "Apology" Sticky for those that want to get all misty about their gaffs, a sticky for those that worship the ground others walk on "We're not worthy" and that way those can place their threads in there. On a positive note, it has been a marked improvement over the old in operational functionality, I no longer experience " Can't log on " issues, it Still has to be one of the better forums out there for the type of guitar that I play, the music, and the advice given by the "more positive" people that wish this forum to succeed and help others, overall its still holds my interest, but I do confess to getting weary of "Attitude/Ignorance". I tend to take the advice now of some of the more professional people here and just watch and learn rather than participate. You asked I answered - diplomatically as I can be.
JefferySmith Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 One year for the forum' date=' Any thoughts? Stan.[/quote'] It has a nice bunch of people and a nice format for tossing around subject matter. I regret the loss of some of the experts due to banning. I recognize that Epiphone can ban anyone for whatever reason, but I'm not aware of the reasons that were exercised on those guys. They did have opinions, but I respected them. And I doubt that anyone would run out and buy a non-Epiphone guitars because that guitar was mentioned here. I think that many of us are here because we think that Epiphone makes the best guitar for us for the money, and that it is what we can afford on our salaries.
RSDx Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Has been an enjoyable year (has been about a year since I got my LP and joined this site, so I have no experience with the old forum to compare it to). Lots o' knowledgeable and helpful folks here, if one takes the time to sift through the chaff that arises periodically. Here's to many more years, hopefully
charlie brown Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Well, beyond the "Growing pains," their's as well as our's...(knowing when to want an arbitrator/moderator's input and when not to), and finding out that we do (indeed) seem to need "some" structure...it's been a great year. What I'd love to see, is more/any input from Epiphone, to help do away with a lot of speculation, on our parts. I too, as Jeffery mentioned, miss some of the members that have either been banned, or chose to leave on their own, due to the "climate" at the time. But...given that climate, then...I can't say I blame them. However, all in all...it's a great forum, with really good/great members. Thought provoking, passionate (maybe too much so, at times...LOL), and a great source of information! Which could/would be even better, with some input from Epiphone/Gibson, as need be. CB
duane v Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 I was lurking this site early on (March through September 2008), and was a little apprehensive due to the behavior of some of it's member, so I was hesitant to join. But I started seeing an improvement through September and decided to become a member. It's nice forum, but it still needs a active moderator.

stan 58 Posted January 21, 2009 Author Posted January 21, 2009 I'd say the first 6 months of this forum was a little iffy. Posts would vanish left and right, and people were banned willy- nilly. I have to say its much better now, and i like the way the mods do it now. I don't think the forum should set up not to offend a certain age group, leave that up to their parents. When they ban people like Spud(rotcanx) for saying he did'nt like a guitar model or Ricochet for who knows what' you lose something that you can't get back. but all in all i think this place is great. Stan.
28v6r Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 P.S What about some better emoticons please????
antwhi2001 Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 It's good that the forum attracts a mix of knowledgeable old f*rts and newbies. Any internet forum attracts the occasional warped individual and a couple of time this year I've decided to quit, but I drift back. I've learned loads from posters here (where did Smokestack go?) and it's encouraged me to buy and modify guitars I wouldn't otherwise have taken on. In my turn, I try to help less experienced folks from time to time.

Stan.[/quote'] +1 on Rotcanx. He was my primary go-to guy for information regarding Epiphones. I realize that they were others with a lot of information, but Spud was the least likely to give a sarcastic answer to a naive question (and I have some of those).
L1Picker Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Once I got use to the new format and the bugs were worked out, I've got no gripes with the forum. And even though it gets out of hand in some threads, I prefer the lack of moderation to the strong arm of Epiphone that ruled the place in the beginning.
cookieman15061 Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Its been a pleasure meeting all of you.....errr....umm...most of you....well aah..some of ya. lol. All kidding aside I've been inspired to learn so much more about the instrument that I play and that is a direct result of you guys. Thank you so much for your patience and advice. Cookie=d>
AyushPresley Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 I joined a couple of months ago and this is the best forum I've ever been to.. the people are helpful are very friendly...this is an awesome Forum for Information and Fun...the design is very understandable..it's very easy to interact..I guess it's THE BEST
ef_in_fla Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 No forum is perfect, but this one is certainly better than most.

Stan.[/quote'] I agree. And CB made some valid points as well. I joined in Feb 08 and think I was at the tail end of the draconian era, and would agree that things are better now. As for those on the board who feel the need to profess their superiority over us mere mortals, well, I just ignore them.
Big Norm Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Great to be part of this friendly forum. It's the only one I'm visiting every day. I have sometimes the impression I know personnaly a lot of you guys...Lolll It's also fun to ear from people from around the world. Thanks to technology in that case... And it's good to practice my English...lollll
bluelake07 Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 I've learned a lot about Epiphone electric guitars and my Casino in particular by reading the posts here. Found out what modifications people make and what products do and don't work for them. Solutions to problems that arise in guitars. Which books/videos are helpful and have been exposed to new (or should I say new to me) music. I think this forum is very worthwhile and am glad Gibson/Epiphone created it.
Duffy Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 I really like this forum and have participate in it on and off, quite a bit lately. It has great potential for all of us to learn and share. I ask questions and offer my amateur help to others. I offer my ideas and stories. There are a lot of really great guys on the forum. However, one individual M***bro, has offended me personally on several occaisions and put down mine and the equipment of others, always refering to historical super expensive Gibsons. He relentlessly bullys people around and is apparently untouchable. I try to tolerate his antagonism and negative posts insulting me and others and slamming our less than top of the line equipment. I don't think it is fair to us to have to tolerate the abuse of someone like this. It takes the spark of excitement and enthusiasm out of the forum that is built of great people of all levels of ability that want to have fun, get questions answered no matter how stupid they may sound to some, and want to participate in a great community. I don't like being personally offended, no one does; so I guess that is my main complaint. What I like is being able to ask questions of people that have info to share, learn about things I have no idea about, and help people that I might be able to help from my amateur experience and other life experiences. I like to promote a friendly atmosphere and try to offer ideas in a way that encourage people to love music and play guitars. This is a great place for that. When certain individuals aggressively try to destroy the atmosphere of common respect and friendliness I think it is a dis-service to all of us who want to have a good time and learn things, especially about our Epiphones, which I believe are great guitars. I think it is only in order to state how I feel about the one antagonist that insults me and degrades my equipment and that of others. My objection is not against the forum, but focused on the unacceptable behavior of the individual that does the bullying. Duffy Winfield, Pa.
