Kea Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 I recently bought a Ultra 11 and had problems with it staying in tune and the G string plays sharp above open tuning, so I bought new strings and put them on but the G string would tune but is sharp on 2nd fret and above. I took it to the dealer they put new strings on it and set it up and said that the G string is not a problem that all strings are a little sharp. Play a D chord it sounds really bad. Is it just an adjustment I'm dealing with? Thanks for your help
Memphs1978 Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 sounds like its MIGHT be getting bound up in the nut... take a pincil or some graphite and put in the string groove and see if that helps?
L1Picker Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 It could also be that the nut needs fitted properly. If the nut is too high, it will cause a pronounced sharpening of the notes when fretting them, especially in open positiions, as it requires an exaggerated amount of pressure to get them to fret. When you fret a string at the 3rd fret, there should be a very slight gap between the string and the first fret.
wrighty3693 Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 have you considered having your frets leveled? A general problem with guitars is that the frets are not crowned and leveled properly due to factory blemishes due to lack of time and care. Wrighty2012
